This is going to (hopefully) be more then just a shindig.

What’s up everyone,

I want to start things off by apologizing for my absence the past couple of months; I simply took a break from fighting games / gaming (in general).

I also haven’t been active on TYM because of this (break) and the constant speculation threads were driving me crazy!

However, with MKX just around the corner, I decided to pick up my controller and began playing MK9 / IGAU once again.....and it felt good!

I look forward to playing all of you (offline) and hope our scene continues to grow once MKX is released.

All the best.

No need to apologize dude, great to have you back.
How soon do you think you would be able to start coming out again?

Zaf,

At the moment I think we're caught in "fighting game limbo", MK9 is fairly dead and there's not much motivation to play Injustice. Right now I'm just playing casually (online) to maintaining footsies, spacing, execution, etc... but I'll definitely be coming out once MKX drops (which will fire up the scene once again).

Another concern is the lack of local (which I think you might have a solution to); I really liked Foonzo because it was downtown and I'm sure everyone was able to access it quite easily but things changed and apparently it's no longer an option.

Matt's place was a good option to maintain the weekly during the past couple of months (he deserves major props for stepping up and doing this) but ideally, we need a (common) place that can accommodate 10 - 15 - 20+ people any given week. People need to feel like they can show up without any restrictions (impossible to have larger numbers at Matt's place) and this will encourage bigger turnouts.

MK9 isn't really dead, neither is igau. A game is only dead if you let it become dead and are not willingly to play it anymore.
You could be maintaining your footsies, execution etc by coming out and playing with us. You can not even counter poke online for MK9 which is core to the game.

I like that everyone is all fired up and ready once MKx hits but.... How about everyone show up a few times before then and show some numbers?
This is not directly to you krys, but everyone in general.

No one really does any "work" here in montreal.
I dont see anyone else looking for alternate locations or making suggestions for our local. Pretty much everyone is waiting for this to be handed to them.

Props to matt and Bacon for keeping igau going when jer and I stopped showing up. Props to matt for letting us use his place for our weeklies right now.
But other then this, I see no one even trying to do anything for this community.

I just ask that we get some numbers before we start looking for other places to play, as having numbers will allow us a wider variety of places to look into hosting us.

Hey everyone.

Yesterday, @Ecodus came with me to meet up with the Director of Montreal Mash up. The director's name is Chris and he does have an account here on TYM (@Cyrzo2). Montreal Mash up is a new and upcoming venue that is looking to be the main hub for fighting games. They have a studio that is being rented to them. If you want to check them out, here is their web site http://www.montrealmashup.com/. This is their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/mtlmashup.

MMU has reached out to our community in hopes of being our new home for the bi-weeklies that they are going to be starting.
The first bi-weekly is this Saturday. The main game for the event is going to be UMVC3 and secondary game is SFxT. This is not to say that we are no longer welcome on days without an NRS game in the spotlight. We can still show up and run our own things.

Venue fee is $10 for the day. Starts from 5pm to 11:30 pm.

I will be heading out to the studio this weekend on Saturday to check it out. See the size of the place, check the set ups and see how everything is run.
Anyone else who wants to maybe show up and check it out is definitely welcome and I encourage this as I would love everyone's input on this.

Ill stop here for now. I will let you guys ask more questions.

I've checked them out already, they're legit. Casual set-ups for games that aren't the main focus are there (last time I went was for SF4 and I ended up playing more Tekken and KI than SF4!) and I'd say once MKX comes out it'd be a good way to expose people to the game (since I'm sure most of the people around the various FG scenes have tried MK9/I:GAU already). They had setups for Smash but nobody played.

Also, the reason I haven't been coming out is essentially 'cause I don't like MK9. I don't play it, I don't care to learn it this late in the game, and from what I understand barely anyone plays Injustice anymore so there's no real drive to show up. I still keep up with how the game's played because it's always good to know what works in any FG but MK9 just wasn't my cup of tea.

Smash has their own venue called the smashloft. I've spoken to some members of the smash community last night and it does not appear as though they need a new place as they already set up and are a well run machine.

Good to know you checked it out. Ive reached out to some smash people that went and other people that went for SF4 like snafoo.
They all had the same single "complaint" which was laggy tvs. But if we have our own set ups then this is not an issue.
It is a hassle for us for the time being to bring our equipment back and forth all the time, but hopefully once MMu is set up and running more events they will have more TVs/consoles etc. But it is not like this is an issue for us as we were always bringing out our own equipment to foonzo anyways

EDIT: Yea I understand the not wanting to show up. It is pretty much the same for the rest of the community at this point. If there is anything I can say to persuade you to come and play some MK9 with us, it would be that you can try and get used to a block button. =P

Sounds good. Bi weekly is nice Bc we can alternate training and tournament
Yup. There is still always a talk of having a weekly but for this to happen the numbers need to be there.
