What's new

Down 4 is supposed to stop people hitting you with crossup jump punch right?

Why isn't that working? I lost (as Sub-Zero) to a Nightwolf. He would lay on the ground, I do D4, it gets blocked or whiffs, and he jumps over me. I do another D4 to avoid the incoming jump punch and get hit anyway. What gives?

Because it wasn't designed to anti-air. Yes you can anti-air with a d4/d1 but that doesn't make it easy. JIK > d4 almost everytime.

Yeah, this happens to me all the time. Sub-Zero's d4 doesn't lower his hitbox enough so you can't just spam d4s like Mileena because there is an actual punish for it other than a jump kick.

I get crossed up a lot when fighting Nightwolf and Scorpion. Is there any way to keep them off of me if they jump towards and I don't have enough time to react with Standing 2? His uppercut is pisspoor btw.

Welcome to the club. Sub-Zero struggles a lot with this kind of pressure.

I use the jump back kick in anticipation when they trapped in the corner and I want to keep them there. That's one solution, another is to mix up your d4 pressure with clones. Don't become predictable. That way, if they do start jumping at you, you'll get a free punish some of the time, which makes them hesitant to do it again. Just watch your opponents patterns, see when they like to jump and start using the clone to anti-air them. Sub's clone is his best anti-air. 22 works sometimes but they end up getting over you most of the time. Try waiting for them to actually cross you up before you 22, as well, just so you're not doing it in the wrong direction. It's really tough to do but can work.

Some characters D4 has different hit box properties and its not a 100% guaranteed evade for Crossup not even with mileena/sonya it just makes it allot harder for the jumper to time his punch nothing more.
