Like someone else said in this thread, the "red mist" @ 1:14 in the trailer could be Shinnok "escaping" the amulet.

But what is the most perplexing thing from the trailer is: Who is Sub-Zero talking to at the very end when the screen goes black? He says: "Earthrealm's fate lies with you"

Perhaps he's just talking to Cassie & company. Or perhaps, someone else?
