From IGN's Interview with Rocksteady:

"From our point of view, we never wrote it or made it with a rating in mind. We never did that in the previous two games... We just felt that this is the story that we really wanted to tell. In terms of creating the story, with such strong characters, sometimes they lead you in interesting directions. They lead you because you know who they are and you build the world around that."

The last Arkham games pushed the limits of the T rating in their darkest moments. Hill wouldn't share any specific examples of how Arkham Knight "beat" those games, though he did generally explain why things are going to be more dire than ever for the caped crusader.

"As the end of the trilogy, we have every villain in Gotham working together to destroy Batman," Hill said. "It's unavoidable that some bad stuff is going to happen. But that doesn't mean we changed our approach. We're not including gratuitous blood or swearing. We want to deliver a true end with no compromises, and it takes us to some dark places."



What is your take on this? I also felt the Arkham games were appropriately dark and fitting for the story and grit Rocksteady sought to employ, pushing the T rated content a little further than a game like say, Destiny.

I think the main reason Arkham Knight will be rated M is in regards to gameplay. My minions at WB have brought news to my attention that Rocksteady as a whole was displeased with the Caped Crucader's d2 in Injustice and gave it a significant buff, casing the M rating:


Contrasting DC, Marvel has commented that their games will continue to push M and AO boundaries for their notoriously raunchy content.

Is it possible that Red Hood and Harley being playable contributed to this? I've heard that Red Hood indeed kills in combat and Harley most likely will too, at least she should.

Anyway, this is great news. I love me some dark and gritty stories, especially comic book stories. Can't wait for this gem.

unless you're a minor, this shouldn't be a problem. the arkham games were already like T++, just shy of M, so this makes sense. im glad Rocksteady isn't dumb enough to tone down the game to retain a T rating.

if my sources are correct, im pretty sure the change in rating is due to the Harley Quinn bikini DLC that will totally happen guise

Asylum is one of the best games of last generation, City bored me to tears, didn't play Origins, this M Rating has piqued my curiosity and got me interested again.
