You can't win my sister!
Long time viewers of GBS will recall that Wonder Woman specialist Grawlix stopped being able to compete every week just as he was reaching a higher level of play. After months of missing the tournament he had a week off from his new job and decided to bring the amazonian warrior back to the battlefield. He was paired up in the most canon of matchups against N1k0lass' Ares in the first round. After a decisive 3-0 loss to the god of war it seemed Grawlix's return would be uneventful. However, after a close back and forth losers match against Rational Jim Grawlix regained momentum and begain reminding Chicago of the power of an amazon, defeating Truth 3-0 before playing an incredible match against Saucy Jack's Superman. The two DC icons clashed, with massive comebacks and 100% lifebar rounds, until it was tied 2-2. Grawlix started the final game off strong but the Jew of Steel refused to go down fighting. Mounting a comeback the two began to freak out and the level of play sunk as the stakes were raised. By the end the two were throwing out everything but the kitchen sink and there hasn't been this many dropped combos at GBS since Pantychrist moved away. The princess came out on top and Gridman vs. PR Balrog from EVO 2013 may have finally been topped. Unfortunately, Grawlix's exciting run would come to an end in a rematch against his first round opponent, N1k0lass. Picking up on the matchup this set was a close 2-2 but the god of broke was just too strong and Ares would get his revenge for what happened to him in the Injustice comic last year.
Meanwhile Batman rogues Bane and Catwoman continued their dominance in the Chicago scene, with Max and I meeting up in the winners finals and grand finals once again. With Selina's two recent wins against the venom monster weighing heavily on his mind Max went into this week with something to prove. While the matches were close and the last games came down to the final read in the end the cat couldn't run away forever and she was unable to sneak away back to her home with her diamond this week. After a 3 week break from broken backs the king has regained his throne and Max is champion once again. Watching events unfold from the stream chat Pimpimjim announced his return for next week. PPJ had declared that he'd return when Max won again and with Bane standing proud at the end of the night the stage is set for Hawkgirl to fly again. Squawk!
But now it's time for a sad update. At Tony's while we were upplaying Bane, blowing up Wafflez and gorging on bread Tony Jr came over to our table and delivered some terrible news. Starting Saturday Tony's will no longer be open 24/7. They will be closing at midnight now. GBS is over too late and this effectively means the end of post GBS Tony's. It is the end of an era. Tony's has been a GGA institution for years and this is truly a major blow to the Chicago scene.
