Getting off combos

I took a decent break from mk9 due to online crap....came back recently (and online is still shit!) and im having ALOT of trouble getting combos off.. not cos' of lag... but once I get up close i just get beat all over, Im using Rain alot and having so much trouble getting in there faces..

any tips on what i can do? (not just with rain, with anyone!) i just feel like ive turned into one of the worst mk9 players ever.. when a couple month ago.. i was getting decent.

Yeah you aren't the only one. I play offline so much when I get online I can't land anything. I have trouble with punishing and sometimes even getting in due to the lag. Forget about dash cancel combos, I just can't land them online. I'm pretty solid offline but when I get on the net the timing is so off I just can't do it. So I just don't play online...

Practice, my son. Lol no but seriously.. just have to make the combos second nature. You also have to learn the other characters' bnbs so you know how and when to block, and when you can punish. If you miss punishes on say, a blocked raiden superman or scorp/ermac tele then you just need a lot more playing time.

Also, rain isn't the best char for getting punishes off IMO. He has issues with negative edge (again, IMO) and I often db+2 and get tele, etc. It's frustrating as hell and doesn't happen to me with other chars at all.
