Hey guys for anyone that knows about computers I was playing a game and the game froze and the colors got all messed up I rebooted, same issue. Now my computer barely lasts long before the colors mess up again. I asked my brother and he tells me it's my video card. Now my question is can I fix it and if not can anyone tell me what would be a good replacement that doesn't murder my wallet?

Sounds like a video card... but answer a few questions first

Well what kind of computer do you have? A laptop?

Is it hooked up to a monitor? If so have you tried another monitor and experienced the same results? (maybe it could just be the cable)

When turning your computer on, try pressing F8 and boot into Windows Safe Mode (with or without networking doesn't matter). Does the issue still occur?

www.newegg.com has great video cards for great prices. Do you know what kind of motherboard you have? You'll have to find out whats compatible

Actually it's not freezing.

Not sure anyway to find out? My brother helped me set it up a couple years ago so I have to ask him later.

Do you know what video card you have right now? Maybe it just needs to be updated.

I'm just giving you suggestions to try before you go and buy a whole new video card.

Start menu -> right click my computer -> manage -> Device manager -> Display Adapters

or

start menu -> right click my comptuer -> properties -> (assuming youre on win7/win8) Click Windows Experience Index (should have a rating next to it) -> View and print detailed performance and system information

Should be under Graphics

It says your windows experience index needs to be refreshed but there is nothing clickable

I had a similar issue about a year ago. I assumed it was my graphics card at first, then shockingly I learned it was my 5 year old apple cinema monitor starting to go out. The colors would only get corrupted when there were a lot of light color or white pixels on the screen, like from my google homepage. Eventually it got worse and started doing it more frequently, even while gaming. I took it to the apple store, they couldn't do anything so I ended up slam dunking my 23 inch cinema into the garbage can.

Well I installed and just as I was typing to say it looked like it worked, crash and colors lol.
Yeah time to look for a new vidya card my friend.

www.newegg.com

You're looking for something that is PCI Express 2.0 x 16. (thats the size and type of the slot the video card fits in on the motherboard)

You can find this out by looking at the specification tab. Its normally near the top and most of the time its in the title of the product
