Question How do I play as Batman?

I'm a Martian main, and I love him but I want to play Batman too and I'm having trouble adapting to normal characters that aren't MMH haha. What strings should I be using and not using? I heard he's a rushdown character, how do I go about doing that? What's the best strings and blockstrings? I've been using 22 (+8) then 12 and from there I usually just either release bats and jump in or slide or dash in and do b113 and if I don't have bats I just MB a batarang and start more pressure. Unfortunately my pressure is littered with high attacks. But my Batman just sucks. I need a litle mini guide on how to play as Batman - I've watched Arma and King etc play but I just can't think like a Batman player. Advice please? Thanks! :)

DO NOT use 22 as a block string. You only use the 223 string as a hit confirm if the trait bats hit and you nail a J2 to follow up. The second hit of 22, as in 2(2), is a high. Any good player will be ducking against Batman anyway, and only the first 2 will connect, the second will whiff, and you'll eat a full combo. If you want block advantage, use 12.

All of Batman's viable strings are mostly interruptable with the exception of B23 and F23. B23 is generally his best string and has better range than most of his normals. Up close, you want to use B11 (low starter), and cancel it into trait on block to continue pressure. Use 112 and cancel it into either trait or MB batarang for a crap ton of block advantage (though again, be careful, the final 2 whiffs on certain low hitbox characters when they crouch). Follow up MB batarangs with a f3 or a safe jump in (preferably use 12 after the jump in). Batman doesn't really have any true mix-ups but that's kinda how you pressure with him.

Try to finish combos with MB straight grapple, call bats while opponent is still in hit stun (or whiff a normal) and go for ambiguous cross ups afterwards (Darth Arma special).

While the Batman forums are kinda dead (like most character forums), there is some good stuff there posted a while ago. Watch videos of Arma and Forever King too.

This is extremely general, don't hesitate to ask for more specific details and we'll all gladly answer.

It depends on the range. Generally, if you have trait out, the tendency is to punish with trait (since it punishes a good amount of moves). You can convert after trait with a b3 for some 37% damage or so, or you can even j2 after trait depending on the situation.

If you don't have trait out, Batman's standing 1 is usually the go-to move since it's his fastest normal (though again, it doesn't have much range so it depends on what you're trying to punish). I'd say his 123 string or 113 string are the best punishers in that case.

There are other situational punishes. For example, Aquaman's low scoop should be punished with 113 even though the first 1 will whiff. You can also punish it with F2 or B2 into straight grapple if you're willing to spend meter. Aquaman's uppercut should be punished with B113.

EDIT: Don't punish Aquaman's scoop with F2/B2 into straight grapple if he has trait, obviously.

Ahh that's where my problem was. I thought there was like some kind of 50/50 chance where I can either get Batman or Joker - completely random! Thank you soooooo much! :D

You've left this out in the open, now anything you try and use from this thread I'll just punish you for trying :joker:

Work on trait cancels, ie cancelling a blockstring into call bats- your best ones in particular are probably 12~4 (12 is +6 on block so I'm assuming it has decent cancel advantage) and b11~4. You can also do f2~4, 112~4, OCCASIONALLY (not against me ;) ) you can get away with b2~4 as well but any followup to that is interruptable iirc.

If you already have bats out and your in and pressuring or after the 12~4/b2~4/b11~4 you can follow up with something like what Coolwhip mentioned like any of the blockstrings I mentioned cancelled into MB batarangs for serious block advantage. This block advantage gives you a free dash in, a free jump in (preferably j2 because fuck Batman and his fucking j2), a f3 (for overhead mixup [although it's kind of slow] and plus frames) or another blockstring/more pressure.

In fact, I'll just tag some Batmains in case I'm wrong about anything here...and because they'll be able to tell you more than me :p

Really guys, when someone asks for advice and help answer the question or do not comment let alone bother clicking on the thread. TYM was made to promote the fighting game scene and help players in need. OP thought that it was funny and apparently appreciated that sense of humor but whatever :/ if we're gonna be serious for a sec then the #1 thing i would say from facing many a batman player and playing with him early in the games life is that you have to keep the pressure on the opponent. IMO bruce should always be pushing the tempo (unless the MU dictates otherwise) to constantly keep his opponent on their toes. Against players that know batman's tricks you have to find different ways to open them up. J2 is Godlike. Trait allows you to keep the opponent honest and make your approach much easier than a lot of other characters. And DO NOT use 22 or 223 on block YOU WILL BE PUNISHED AS A RESULT OF THE SECOND 2 IN THOSE STRINGS BEING A HIGH AND THE OPPONENT OBVIOUSLY CROUCH BLOCKING. I'm sure actual batman mains can get more in depth but that's all i see in terms of getting his main bnb gameplan down

I played around with a BnB and abused the shit outta his oki game and I thought he was just boring to play as well. I'm just not feeling the green... That kind of green, I'm still feeling martian green ;D
