While I think rock sucks now, I don't believe it's cause of downloading. I think the biggest problem is that the music that major labels put out is targeted for kids, not adults. And because of this, you get trendy garbage instead of genuine quality music. I know I've thought about it before, but my taste in music is infinitely better now than when I was 15. There were definitely some head scratchers in my music collection, such that I don't understand how I could have liked such and such album. But if lack of money killed rock, then it deserved it, 'cause music shouldn't be about money.

Tyler, BadBadNotGood, Lil'B *Fuck Kevin Durant*, Casey Veggies, Dom Kennedy, didn't Hopsin start out on his own through the net? Then you got acts like Jurassic 5 getting big again through the net.

Essentially the good Rock records tend to be from establish bands. Groups that were together in the 90s or singers who were from the 70s-90s.

The problem with music nowadays is that there is no great voices singing. Seriously look at the 90s and there was tons of different yet good(or great) singers.

My personal favorite singers are

Axl Rose
Chris Cornell
Jeff Buckley
Mark Lanegan


It's weird, nowadays everyone sounds the same, no unique trait. This goes to every genre in music.

Maybe I'm exaggerating a little lol but I do think many of the songs played by pop/rock/country, etc. could easily be sung by different artist of their respected genre. It's like when you heard a song by Guns N Roses or PinkFloyd or Hendrix, you just know that no one could do that song but them.

In many instances I find many artist that mainstream proclaim "great" could easily be replaced by another artist and nothing would change.

im not super old, only 23, but i haven't really heard much "rock" (being super general) that was worth listening to since like 04. maybe its just that good stuff isn't being promoted. i really hope its not dead.

oh and that music video of yours was strange @AK Pig Of The Hut . dug it though. could tell just by that song you're a NIN fan lol

I agree with this, but this is a problem for mainstream music only.

I haven't listened to regular radio in over a decade. Especially since I got the first iPhone in 07. There hasn't been a need since. 95% of the shit on the radio is trash. Most of the pop music isn't even good anymore.

Now forreal , i don't think the problem is losing the big $$$ majors because very few ones buy actual "discs" , bands could actually be using digital delivery services ala soundcloud / bandcamp to monetize on their work ( and yes i do know they don't have the same exposure as MTV and they won't make big $$$ for a one hit album and then disappear ) but majors and bad economics practices are invading the digital radio / delivery in the new internet and it's just getting as bad as TV , just look at spotify $$$ system ( Evil incarnate i tell you ) , either you're already famous or you can F off.

It sucks that new bands ( or ones with a small following ) have to do this kind of things to live off their music http://noisey.vice.com/en_uk/blog/the-growlers-how-much-it-sucks-being-in-a-touring-band and i'd love for a change , but it's not the bands that have to actually change a lot , it's the consumer in a new digital era of distribution where you can listen to pratically anything and can choose to SUPPORT music that you love by donating / buying an album , there's also a lot more good music press / sites than before to actually inform yourself.

Try it , it ain't bad.

Also Rollins was good only when he was playing music in Minor Threat and Fugazi , his opinion on things doesn't actually intrigue me. Jello Biafra is way better "PUNK ICON" (lol) than him anyway.
