Mortal Kombat X Story and Character Variations

Every since I heard the different opening dialogue in MKX videos. I've been thinking about the story reason for Character Variations. As far as we know the story takes place directly after MK9 to 25 year span. In the first video with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, they clearly know each other.

Then in another video(can't find it) they are both in different variations. Instead of the heated argument of clan killing. Scorp just call him a Lin Kuel scum. Sub replies in jest. This very exchange leads me to believe that we will be playing with different characters entirely. Due to this hated rivals not acknowledging there past. Just wanted to give my two cents on what I think NRS is doing with story mode.

What Do you think it could mean?

If the whole Sonya/Johnny/Liu Kang thing is true and they're playable, what you're saying is already confirmed, at least in their case. Three ages, each one with its own fighting style. Makes perfect sense actually.

Good catch! So the 3 variations of Subzero are different persons while for Sonya/Johnny it will be different ages. So what about the others? I mean D'vorah, Ferrator, etc.

Almost every game has a very old dude how's an expert on some martial art. Women don't always have to be there as sexual objects you know.

And Sonya's only 51 in her oldest. XD

I'm sure in story mode, variations will pull double duty. They're not going to do it for real characters.

I'm pretty sure I said absolutely nothing about sexuality. I was just saying Sonya is much older now, so she would do one of her signature moves in a wheelchair. I could have used Johnny's nut punch but the image of someone trying to do a cartwheel in a wheelchair was funnier. Chill out; your Tumblr is showing.

No I mean it's a member of his clan. As one variation can't use hellfire based moves.

What if the events of MK9 just altered it's current time while the other dimension(where Raiden sends his message and seems to be killed by Shao Kahn) still exist. The two dimensions clash causing some of the old MK characters to still be alive and thus having different variants. This would also create leeway for the new characters and MK4 onward to appear.

It's cool, it's much harder to convey what you actually mean over the internet so maybe I shouldn't have read it as hostile so quickly. The Tumblr joke was a reference to all the extremist social justice warriors on Tumblr who take offense to pretty much anything involving gender or racial issues and will begin attacking you over it.

I didn't know that even existed, interesting. I wouldn't say I take offense easily, but I do have a soft spot for female objectivization, among other things. It's the first time I ever brought up the subject in these forums though.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to "old" Sonya if she's in, because of what I stated above!

I was thinking it could be that those variations are just the same persons but from alternate realities or from alternate timelines.

I'd guess for the new cast they'll just show up throughout the story and their variations will be glossed over.

Also, they mainly seem like villains so far, so I doubt they'll be playable in the story mode. Besides Cassie.
