This has probably been brought up in some way or form but i'd like to hear about everyones top 5 games of all time, you don't need to put them in an order if you cant, also if you're like me and almost can't decide your favourite game of an entire franchise just say the whole franchise!
Here's mine.
1: Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask (And the rest of the franchise)
This entire franchise is beautiful, Ocarina of Time has always been under the argument of that it may be the best game of all time or at least among them, I think it truely is one of the most enjoyable games i've personally played along with the rest of the franchise! I found the most enjoyment and the best story from Majoras mask however.
2: Halo Franchise (Halo 4)
The Halo games alone don't have the most epic stories of all games however I do find them still very exhilarating on their own, however the whole universe of Halo is by far my favourite of any game, not only do you need to need to learn to love the games you have to also soak up the rich stories that surround master chiefs story, the stories behind side games such as Halo Wars, Reach, Halo ODST & Spartan ops are all amazing and add so much atmosphere, but the best thing about the franchise is the off game lore which you can read through the graphic novels.
Halo 4 was by far my favourite in the stories, not only was Spartan ops my favourite part of the stories told in the games because it tells a great story and gives Halsy a bigger role in the games and explains more it also sets up a great cliff hanger that keeps me hanging on.
But as for Halo 4 and it's story of Master chief and Cortana, 343 said they wanted to make this game (and saga) very emotional, they aimed to deliver to show the human inside master chief so that he was less of a robot (which spartans essentially are, people brainwashed to know only perfection and combat)
This story tore me apart and was one of the few games to ever make me tear up.
3: Bioshock 1 (Also infinite)
I know these are looking somewhat mainstream but I can't shake a game like this, at it's time it was beyond anything I had seen before in a game, the setting was not the most out of the box idea I guess, but being able to play this idea in a game and having the twists and turns they threw in with the game made it an amazing story, and who doesn't like a dark game?
Bioshock 1 was the only game that truely made me jump out of my seat out of fear, games never usually make me do this like movies will, but with bioshock there was one room that inherently made my heart skip a beat when I played through for the first time, I was so immersed and did not see it coming whatsoever.
4: Mortal Kombat 9 (Franchise in general)
How could I be here and not have the MK franchise be within my top 5?
I first played MK trilogy as a young child on my Nintendo 64, I never had any real experience with fighting games but I remember I always enjoyed trying to go back and beat ladder (with no success as a child) because it was still so much fun to play, all the characters looked badass to me and I thought this game was truely brilliant, upon returning to MK9 I fell back in love with MK and found this community.
5: Gears of War Franchise. (Excluding Judgement)
To be honest this was a little tough, as a Call of duty fan I couldn't shake that CoD4 should be here as it was so much fun but none the less Gears of War has such a rich story and fun multiplayer as a franchise to push out Call of duty.
Gears of war 3 was the peak of the series, these games only got better which is odd for most franchises as some lose a little important piece as they progress.
As a whole the story is a great tale of humans versus aliens, done many times but this was that Mixture of an emotional roller coaster mixed in with the gore and brutality of a Mortal Kombat game.
The reason this perhaps got into my top 5 was that Gears of War 2 and 3 were the only games before I played Halo 4 to make me cry, I never used to cry at much, never movies and definitely not video games.
But I cannot watch the scene where Dom finds Maria in Gears 2 & of course the event that people were most upset by in Gears 3.
Well those are mine you don't have to put any reasoning into why you love yours but i thought i'd let you know as video games have really spoken amazing stories to me, they are equal to movies and infact greater in some ways, their stories have become so important to people.
