Why is Goro a prince and not a king?

So me and my Carnale ("Brother" in spanish) are watching MK which is on HBO right now, and he asked a good question "Why is Goro a prince and not a King?" I mean as big a Goro is and how Evil his intentions are you would think he would kill his father and take the throne. I could read the Bio on Goro but I'm too lazy lol.
