How is he downplaying? He just talked about what Kung Lao lacks and still called him more complete than Kabal. He also didn't say Kung Lao should be given a mid. He just pointed out that he lacks one. Talking about a character's weaknesses does not mean you're suggesting the character shouldn't have those weaknesses. Just curious, do you make the same post when people talk about Aquaman's poor wake-ups in Injustice? Does that mean they're implying Aquaman SHOULD have good wakeups?
Because Kung Lao has a mid.... just not a mid-hitting combo starter, so he was either just wrong in his post or he was trying to complain that the most well rounded character in MK9 lacks a 50/50.

@ManOfManyActs

Kung Lao has a completely safe 7% mid... F2 err day bro. Anything else you would like to say Kung Lao "lacks"

Cyrax would be in the top 10 discussion even without the reset. Huge damage even without the reset. One of the best down 4's in the game that provides huge advantage. A retarded command grab that provides safe jump ins and more pressure/command grab mixups given how difficult it is to tech (looks a lot like standing 1). One of the best anti airs in the game with huge priority that totally nullifies cross ups. Great all around footsie tools. Net has a ridiculous hitbox and is probably one of the most terrifying things to see on screen in the game. Not to mention, removing the reset wouldn't necessarily remove the breaker traps.
That's true, he could still do 59% if he got a jip combo, but now he can do a little more than that and get a jab/command grab mixup or just get ~80% every time he touches you. His reset affects the meta against him. It's almost never wise to have less than 2 bars of meter, the MU gets really tricky for meter-dependent characters. A few of the MUs feel kinda even in the neutral but he wins because he out-damages them.

d4 and Anti-Air throw are broken for sure, but the other tools you mentioned really don't work as well against players who know how to play the MU. I went to VSM once and let me tell you they were not having my command grab shenannies. Even my main sparring partner who I still play this game with pretty much always techs it at this point.

I think he's a very solid character, I guess top 10 isn't crazy but I think the reset is a huge part of the character he is. Even still he loses some MUs, especially the 3-7 against Kabal.

it's an overhead actually
You must be joking.... now I know you have no idea what you are talking about... a "mid" in MK9 is an "overhead" as in it hits crouching characters. Get your facts straight kid.

Are you trying to say Lao lacks a move such a Cage's F3 which hits low blocking characters and thinking that is a mid? At this point I have no clue as to what you are trying to say Lao was lacking.

Even nerfed, Kano was this close to being mid tier if NRS closed the Swiss cheese holes on his strings.

Nightwolf had vey good damage for whenever he managed to finally open his opponent up.

It's got to be Stryker or sheeva for the worst of those 4.

you are right, lao has a weakness, no fast mid to use in poke game or footsie game, if he had a shang f4 or anything like that it'd be ridiculous, but i don't think the developers thought about giving him any weaknesses, which is what i was referring too

his footsies, up close game, and net make him good, he'd have a lot of bad matchups if it weren't for damage in my opinion though, if he had average damage he would have quite a few 4-6s

no, you don't know what youre talking about. Kung lao does have a mid, it's f2:DOGE. Abuse it all day son:REO

Voted Stryker, but I think Jade is the worst. Low damage, crappy projectile, meter dependent with no way to build meter, only femle char with big hitxbox, overhead that can be interrupted in your sleep, ect

You just realized you have no idea what you were complaining about huh?

You said Lao has no mid. I said Lao does have a mid (F2). You then tried to say that his mid was an overhead (which it is not).

Either you never played MK9 and are confused about it's terminology (mid-hitting moves hit low blocking characters, over heads can be blocked low) or you were trying to say that Lao is somehow lacking because he does not have a mid hitting combo starter (which is stupid).

Who said anything about a 50/50? Mids have nothing to do with 50/50's. He doesn't mean that Kung Lao literally doesn't have a mid (F2 is an overhead, to be precise) since B1 is actually a mid. He just means that he lacks a fast reliable mid hitting normal. His low (B3) lacks range and his F2 overhead is only useful from certain distances and doesn't lead to much. We're talking about a mid hitting jab that is reliable for offense. Don't get me wrong, standing 2 is one of the best jabs in the game, and Kung Lao as a character on the whole is pretty complete and at worst, 6th in the game. But, the lack of a reliable mid does hurt him in many match-ups.

Get familiar with fighting game terminology...not MK9 training mode terminology.
