I like SC5 for what it what, they tried to 'cut the fat' of most of the movelists for us, but I'm not a big fan of GI costing meter while Just Guarding is free, builds meter, is less costly if failed and allows for better punishes.

I also prefer SC2 Raphael to SC3+ Raphael (though Mermet de Vec is interesting).

For balance changes, I'd prefer if Raphael got his old SC2 BB back instead of the new BBB. I also kind of want his pre-patch SE properties back (SEB being less linear, SEA being even safer on block).

I dunno, maybe stop nerfing the fuck out of the entire cast? SC2 was my jam, but playing SC3 and 4 was bewildering. I didn't play much of SC3 but I played enough to recognize that they took SC2 Nightmare and split up all his good moves between two mediocre characters. Good job guise. And Ivy? What the fuck? It was like they took all of her good moves and techniques from SC2 and either changed the inputs for no reason or removed them entirely. Uh, okay? Raphael was also a shadow of his former self, much more stiff. The whole game felt more stiff. Yoshimitsu was the only character I played from SC2 who actually felt buffed in any way.

Tying GI's to meter? Stupid. Why would you want to discourage that? Catering to people who aren't good is the only reason I can think of.

Replacing the main cast is a ballsy move worthy of respect, but come on. Take a look at SF3: new characters replacing old archetypes, but Remy and Necro are (aesthetically) completely different from Guile and Sim. But if you replace Taki with just another ninja girl, do you really expect people are going to take to that character over the original?

It just feels like the series has been watered down ever since SC2.

GI should cost meter, you're parrying everything except a CE or unblockable and putting yourself at +27..... It's often better than JG since it's a guaranteed opportunity to get a punish and JG often gets you nothing, or an AA punish.

SC2 player here, what is this "meter"? :cool:

Eh, now I'm just being a curmudgeon about it. I only really played IV for a little while but I didn't feel like the meter system added anything worthwhile to the game.

If GI becomes meterless then mixup characters like Voldo and Maxi become completely useless, and those are my mains :(
 
If anything since Natsu is now using Taki's dual kodachi, why not for Taki to use either... kunai, kusarigama or sais.

Why Kilik didn't marry Xianghua.

Of course bring back Yun-Seong, Talim & Cassandra.

Zasalamel? Perhaps replace him with someone else who'll take up the scythe. And of course for adding new characters, how about someone Egyptian wielding a khopesh sword?

Okay so as some of you might know, SC5 was my first competitive game and Soul Calibur as a whole is one of my favorite series of all time! so im going to respond to a bunch of posts here and what not and share my own thoughts as well. ill start with what's already been said.

My wish is that Namco allows it to exist instead of ignoring it and giving it the shaft in favor of stupid Tekken.
Namco is actually still supporting the franchise with Lost Swords (the ps3 f2p game) and Unbreakable Souls (the iOS game). Maybe not exactly what fans like us are looking for but it's nice to see that they are doing things with the franchise.

Keep up with the good guest character choices. They did an awesome job with Ezio. Even though he sucks.
Ezio is mad annoying to deal with lol. bb brave edge dog. watch videos of @Jimbonator he tears it up with ezio. his first tournament he 3-0'd Kayane at MLG Raleigh and is currently king 2nd place.

What about new characters? Like what do you all have in mind?
I would love to see them use a character that uses a club or a spiked club or something. a barbarian type character. that would be real cool. maybe someone who fights with a tomahawk. maybe someone that uses a weapon similar to rolento's batton.

Yeah it was really shitty that SC5 didnt have that. Most of it had to do with the Fukushima events happening during the development cycle of SC5 which ended up forcing Project Soul to lose a huge chunk of development time. They had to release the game when they did because if they delayed SC5, it would have came out in the same fiscal year as Tag 2 which isn't good for sales.

More than anything i would like namco to fix things like moves whiffing for no reason and characters waking up in the wrong direction

Not really the mixup would just be different. it would be more like old school GIs where you still had to guess high or low. the post gi mixup that exists now would still exist also where you can choose between a faster move or a slow wind-up move

What I want to stay

With all that being said, I would first and foremost love for Project Soul to keep the same movement system that is in SC5 where movement is UNSAFE. I feel like that is the main thing that makes SC5 stick out from every other 3d fighter because there isn't nearly as much risk in stepping or moving backwards. In SC5, EVERYTHING you do is a huge commitment and the game becomes even more about hard ass reads. I also would like for them to keep the meter system that was implemented in SC5, I thought that was a really cool touch to the game.

What I want different

Now that I mentioned what I want to stay, let me mention what I want to be different. Obviously, stronger single player options and flesh out the new characters. We have no idea who the fuck ZWEI, Natsu, Xiba, Leixia or any of these motherfuckers are other than Patroklos and Pyrrha. Anyone who is a fan of the series wants this. I would love for them to bring back the Weapon Master mode from SC2 or the Mission mode for SC1. I would also LOVE for them to go for a guest character that is way more popular than Ezio. Even though Ezio was a great guest character, played well and fit in the game, he didn't fulfill the duty of the guest character, which is to be the selling point to non Soul Calibur or fighting game fans. There were a lot of people that bought BOTH versions of SC4 so they can play with Darth Vader and Yoda, and you know damn well 90% of the reason why you got SC2 was because Link was in it. A good guest character can be someone like Sora from Kingdom Hearts or Wonder Woman (which I can see being really cool with the lasso). It doesn't have to be a character that makes sense in the game, it just has to be someone who would make people buy the game. I also really, REALLY want them to bring back weapon collecting like they had in SC2, and also more official costumes that come with the game. Customs are fun and all but i would like more than 2 official ones, mostly because i prefer to recolor than to completely customize. I would also like them to redesign ZWEI, I just think overall his design is whack. And of course, bring back the old characters and give us 3 or 4 new ones :).

I absolutely love ZWEI's design and have been maining him for months now. I feel like the character design is fantastic, but they haven't really pulled it off with practical application. EIN basically removes his options, for example 1B] has only a high follow up - if he had an option to follow 1B up with a linear mid then at least he'd have a mixup or something for the opponent to think about. The fact that he relies on EIN to make everything safe when EIN is also what restricts him is so fucking frustrating. His best move (66A+B) gives him little to follow up with at +5, it's essentially putting you both at neutral again with all that pushback and ZWEI's slowness in general. He has frametraps that are easy to avoid, I feel like he's a bag of gimmicks.

Love the design but he's such a fish and it kills me inside.

Like I said, great character design but utterly unviable. i14 AA and 2A LOL GTFO with that garbage
