What is the purpose of the switch stance button anyway? I never understood why they had the switch stance if it doesn't serve a purpose.

They've always said so you can see both sides of the model if you want, also it's because the way the characters are animated they sometimes end up showing you the back or front and they want you to be able to switch back to the way you like. I think they also just have an extra button that they wanted to leave somewhat open for things like xray button combinations and stuff.
