Thoughts on this "surprise villain"

I don't wanna beat on the whole character speculation horse too much but i just thought of something that kinda made sense in my head but not sure if it'd really happen. Of course NRS has said there was gonna be a surprise villain coming to Mortal Kombat X and the more and more I thought about it, the more and more I thought that villain could possibly be Liu Kang. My reasoning for this is looking back to mk9 Liu Kang blames everything on Raiden, from his best friend Kung Lao dying to Kitana as well as all the earthrealm fighters aside from Sonya and Johnny Cage. Then Raiden trying to allow Shao Kahn to come to earthrealm was seen as the ultimate betrayal of Liu Kang's trust. I think Quan chi would have more than enough reason to resurrect Liu Kang as it could benefit having someone who harbors natural hatred for Raiden. Well thats what i thought at least, what do you guys think?

Makes sense, but I hope not. Liu Kang would be a boring villain/boss.

It'll be him or Raiden. Kang bent on revenge or Raiden thinking he is doing the right thing and messing it up for everyone else.

Man, character speculation is all there is until release, then it's going to be character speculation about DLC. With balance whining in between.

My thought on the "surprise villain" is that NRS will probably reveal themselves as people who don't understand the word "surprise."

Everyone knows shinnok will have something to do with MKX that's a given, since he played a part of MK9 towards the end, so it wouldn't be much of a "surprise" to anyone, however I do think Liu Kang will return evil, or neutral.

Raiden in my opinion has no chance of being that surprise boss. I also think he'll be the next character revealed.

All signs point toward Liu Kang like the OP says.

Thats not really a surprise in my eyes either though. It seems actually pretty obvious. It's almost as obvious as Shinnok, but with Shinnok it is SO obvious that it will 100% not be him.

Wouldn't it be crazy if it was Johnny Cage?

I'd be surprised if the "Elder Gods" themselves were villains, but there wouldn't necessarily be a plot to the game.
