Capcom is up for a buy out!!!

...What if Nintendo bought Capcom.

Dear god...game changer.
I've been thinking about this as well, and I think I would rather have Sony or Microsoft (preferably Sony) own the rights to Capcom IP's.

My reasoning is that, Nintendo already has a significant amount of IP's under their belt, and they already seem to struggle with development cycles to get their own games out.

I know they have been expanding their development resources and ramping up production, but we still aren't seeing their own franchises being fully utilized.

Whereas if Microsoft or Sony were to own Capcom IP's, they already have a solid network infrastructure in place and in all honesty could really benefit from having exclusivity to Capcom franchises.

If Microsoft was pumping out Megaman games like the pump out Halo, that would make me very happy.

W-wait, did I get this right? Are some of you guys being serious about a top player buying Capcom? Good Lord, how old are you? 12?? Geez.

And Sony buying Capcom would be huge. I believe Sony Santa Monica could do an outstanding job with RE. Hell, even with DMC.

Do you guys really want Capcom properties WiiU exclusive? It'd be best for a 3rd party team to make the buy. Best case scenario, Inafune's new studio buys Capcom and he goes back to making all the games he didn't get to and running the studio right.

The biggest tournament is EVO and I can't imagine the prize being more than a couple grand. When MK9 launched, PDP had a $10k tourney and that was a MASSIVE deal. NO ONE who plays fighters professionally is making enough to buy Capcom.
I was also thinking about since some of them are sponsored, they get paid guap.

If a console manufacturer bought Capcom, I think it's unlikely that they would opt for console exclusivity. The issue with Capcom IPs remain; they cost too much and they don't make much. Exclusive rights to Resident Evil might push a few more consoles, but would it sell a few hundred million worth of consoles?

I was thinking this as well there is just no way a game like RE or even SF would move units that much for to make up for the production costs

I predict that at some point in the future Capcom IP's will be auctioned off to the highest bidder (similar to what happened to THQ) if things get really bad.

It's hard to say what will end up happening, but I think console exclusivity and control of Capcom IP's would definitely be appealing. Think about why Nintendo does so well as a company (franchise exclusivity).

Capcom hasn't really been able to take any risks because of the financial situation they've been in lately, leading to this.

If a Microsoft or Sony were able to leverage several franchises (ie: Megaman/Resident Evil/Devil May Cry/Street Fighter/Darkstalkers/Monster Hunter/etc.) I definitely think that would be appealing to some of these big publishers, and I definitely think it would lead to increased console sales and justification for 'why you should buy our system'.

Microsoft in particular could really benefit from having some exclusive IP's under their belt other than Halo.

I think they'll be acquired before that happens. Who knows, though, Capcom is pretty damn expensive right now.

Eh, other than Monster Hunter, what does Capcom really offer? Resident Evil is past its prime and needs some work, Megaman has nostalgia but is essentially worthless, Street Fighter has a wide but shallow well, they bungled DMC, Darkstalkers is worthless, their mobile division is a nightmare...

Nintendo makes money off first party because they have strong IPs. If Capcom can't make money off their properties going multiplat, why would a console company take the risk?

Yeah though, who knows. If I owned Sony stock and Sony bought Capcom I would be really upset. MS buying them seems strange and out of character, even though they have the resources. Nintendo is also pretty jacked up financially, so a huge acquisition seems insanely risky. I have been surprised by ludicrous purchases before (Zynga buys NatMo for a half billion), so admittedly I'm not the best judge of these things.

They ain't playing Starcraft or League bro. Most they make is a teacher's salary.

Also fuck the idea of having DMC and Dragon's Dogma be exclusive to Nintendo.
DMC as in Devil May Cry? well I play the originals, but the new one is on playstation 3 so I dont think its exclusive to one consule.

I would like to see Capcom selling their franchises to different companies:
Darkstalers to Lab Zero.
Street Fighter to SNK, Lab Zero or even ArcSys.
Resident Evil and Lost Planet to Sony.
Megaman to Nintendo.
etc.

I can see sony, disney, and nintodo buying it.
WB not so much, there would be a conflict of interest and they also have more appealing IPs
Disney buying Capcom wouldn't be too weird they were very much more than happy to allow their characters to be put into that Wreck it Ralph movie.

I write too much.
Nintendo should buy Capcom...it would be a PERFECT fit.

Megaman exclusive to Wii U? System seller.

Street Fighter exclusive to Wii U? System seller.

Even if it wasn't exclusive to wii u (Street Fighter) Nintendo would make a ton of money off of it.

Resident Evil for the horrer genre...

Dear god...NINTENDO BUY CAPCOM lol
....Smash Bros vs Capcom?

Disney buying them would be interesting too.

Oh and also:

I don't agree with Nintendo. They are way too conservative and don't really take much risks. Nintendo would never try to release a new Darkstalkers, Rival School or even Dragon's Dogma for example. They would play it safe with a million SF and Megaman games. And just make a ton of mario party games featuring capcom characters. You all know it's true.
Isn't that essentially what Capcom has been doing so far, except replace "Megaman" with "Resident Evil"?

GO VOLS!!!
It is most likely for them to be bought out by EA, Activision, Disney, or another developer...not MS or Sony.

There are still people on the Capcom Board of Trusties who would not want to lose a lot of money by being sold to an exclusive business. You can just about gaureenteed whoever buys Capcom will keep it in the interest of multi-platform.

The chances of them being sold to MS or Sony will be very slim.

Hasn't Amazon been acquiring small developers? Maybe they have some big plans...
That would be a strange move indeed. Capcom is a publisher and would cost a serious bucket of money to acquire, while Amazon is (rightly) primarily looking for mobile developers.

ALSO: I love your user pic. Decker is an awesome overlooked movie villain.

You have point there, but if they did buy them out they likely would just let Capcom be Capcom and just suck up royalties from them, kind of what Disney did with Marvel.

So websites like gamefaq people are saying foreign companies are not allowed to buy japanese companies, because of some law(s) in japan.

Can someone refute that or tell me it is true?

I've heard this as well, but it is possible. I think it could also depend on if they are an internationally traded company as well. IDK though I would have to do research on that one
