Select your character, select your variation, your opponent does the same.

Fight

You got your back blown out, go back to character select, select your character, select your variation. Your opponent is locked. (Or can rematch like a boss)

Fight

You win, go back to character select, pick your same character, pick your same variation, your opponent picks the same character, your opponent selects a new variation.(Or can rematch like a boss)

Fight

You got your back blown out, you are now in losers.

pretty friggin simple, how I thought of it, Well every other fighter is like that, Soooooooooooooo.

Why does one loser get to switch his character while the other can't?
Because in my scenario i decided to pick the same character, pick a dif char who cares you just got raped. That was in instance where someone is the man and plays 1 character but picked a dif variation to overcome his opponent.

Ok. I thought you meant a loser who already won a match had to be locked to a character but can switch variations.

I got confused.

Isn't it tournament standard rules(at least the ones I've been to both off and online) the winner MUST remain with that character/style in this case, where the loser can counterpick whoever they wish?

All too easy...
Pre-reg for tournies as a certain character so there's character locks throughout and you can only switch variations if you lose. I hated the idea of Injustice: Counter Picks Among Us and its way more hype when people have to commit to a character for a tourney. And now that interactables aren't as big of a deal instead of double random stages have it 50-50 between two stages you and your opponent pick, I want to decide where you die.

The debate needs to be squashed, core meterfree moves are being changed by variation and that means it's a new character regardless of what it says under the lifebar.

If this were SF and we were talking about letting the 5 different characters that all share half a movelist switch on win there'd be no debate.

Winners don't get to counter pick, the end.

Once again people are saying winner always is locked to varation in other games when that's not true. Winner should get to switch varation like it's always been in games like these.

Can you please stop bringing up the two tiny games that nobody plays like it's relevant? There may be some really sweet xfactor free mvc3 or no ring out virtua tourneys out there doesn't mean it's worth changing the tourney standard.

Would you let a winning Sol player go to order sol on win or a hakumen player go to Jin on win cause that's how stupid this debate is.

So, basically it's suggested to treat [Character Variation] as a separate character and be done with it?
Sounds kinda fair to me considering it isn't exactly baseless at this point to believe that these variations probably play very differently.

Except they're not entirely new characters, but hey for some reason the NRS community always feels the need to be different so fuck it.

If this were SF then winner can repick a different variation FIRST.
So still no counter-picking for the winner, but they can change variation.

Of course it might be smart to actually have a final build of a game before we start talking all "official" rules etc.

The thing with Ultra Street Fighter IV is that the moveset for each character stays the same aside from one move in their arsenal, their ultra combo. Unless they select Ultra Combo Double but... Point being, is that unlike in that game, moves in MKX will change more than that. Therefore, Variation should be locked for the winner too in my opinion but eh, what do I know.

Will they though? I mean we literally don't know dick other than a couple of special moves changing... I mean seriously it seems like the main changes are losing set 1 of special moves and gaining set 2 instead. It really doesn't seem that different from Ultras.

I mean yes it changes the meta/set ups but so does ultra selection.

I thought it was known by now that each variation has different strings as well?
