Hey man I think that you're perhaps misinformed, you might heard of a little game called "Super Street Fighter II Turbo". That game, with it's previous alterations, has been tournament active for about ~23 years pretty much since it's release in 1991 http://www.strevival.com/.Games don't last forever man, even Marvel 2 probably the longest living fighter of the FGC ran its course when Marvel 3 came out. We have to make the most of it now while we can.
I think part of the problem is not many people are so excited to physically travel to bar or a pool hall or a comic book store to have to wait in line for 10-20 minutes to play a game one match, lose and get back in line for 20-30 minutes just to play a second match to possibly lose again lol. You'll spend 4-5 hours at a tournament just to play 4-5 matches lol, why do that when you can play 100 matches at home back to back and without having to travel and pay an entrance fee. to be honest tournaments suck for most players, its only fun and exciting for the guys in the finals.
Sadly, I've seen this happen a few times around here. I have very strong views on what a "top player" really is, but I don't want to stir any pot atm. Just know I take everyone's opinion with a hefty grain of salt around here.I think people are afraid in this community... Like there are people like me that are still trying to level up, and i'm doing it but slowly, i think SOME top players think they can make everyone who is bad/decent at this game feel bad, and they forget that they were scrubs and were trying to learn one day as well... I will not forget that time when someone made a very legit thread about a tournament and a very well known player told him he had no voice because he had never placed top 8 before... Top players instead of encouraging or helping good/decent players, players who are still figuring things out and newcomers they make them feel bad and leave this community, simple. And of course this makes people stop supporting or never start supporting their games. Top players have big impacts on people like me... When i play a top player and he is cool and he helps me leveling up, gives me tips or encourages me i feel like getting better and better and better, but when i see a top player making people leave or feel like that i just want to leave this place. They also have a big impact on how people see the games... If top players talk trash about their game and make threads about how shitty/OP/broken/boring their game is of course other players will listen to them! I just wanted to write this >_< this is my opinion.
They're group texting about you right nowLet it out guys, let's change this Illuminati bullshit. We deserve better.
i bet they are, and my size 13 foot is ready, who wants a mustache ride? They're group texting about you right now
So you ENJOY being a fan and not a playerUm, you definitely don't have to be a top player to get hype in the crowd. Do you have to be a professional footballer to get excited in the crowd at the World Cup?
btw... behind you 120%i bet they are, and my size 13 foot is ready, who wants a mustache ride?
Sorry, I haven't been involved in the SF scene, that's my bad. Thanks for correcting me though, I don't want to spread misinformation.Hey man I think that you're perhaps misinformed, you might heard of a little game called "Super Street Fighter II Turbo". Godlike community is godlike.
Imagine what THTB, Mayo, Cossner antics could be in mexico. For real, 99% of the best parts of attending tournaments don't even involve the actual tournament, or even the game.
Fucking...I want to go to a tournament again and team up with Hitoshura and Shady again. Good God, our fucking antics are legendary.
Obviously I would rather be a player, but that's not my point. NY Shadow was saying how you can only get hype at a tournament if you're a top player, which isn't true at all. I was just trying to provide a counter-example.So you ENJOY being a fan and not a player
There is an events tab on the homepage, which has a lot of tourneys on the schedule. Not everything is going to be represented there though. There is also a tourneys forum, where you can post your region and ask about events.Hey guys, using this thread to make my first post. Been lurking for about a year now, wanted to finally get into the scene. Yes, I am a complete noob, I mean my name hopefully reflects that lol. Would love to go to a tourny just to meet some folks face to face (and get Tom Brady's autograph!). Where can I find the schedule of when tournaments are? I am east coast, btw.
Also, just a simple question. MK9 is an awesome game, as is Injustice. I mean I really hated these type of games, but I would still play them. I owned MK1 and Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, so I've been around for a long time just watching. These current gen NRS games though, they are amazing, I can't stop playing them. But the question is, if everyone hates Kabal so much, why not just ban him from pools and just play the damn game? MK9 is a radical game, why not set some house rules? It's kinda pitiful you all are going to drop a game because of 1 minor thing.
Anyways, again hello. It's nice to meet you all.
I think that moving forward, we definitely need to do a better job of making the list of big events + info about them clear and easy to follow. That's one of the things on my list to improve for the months ahead. There is an events tab on the homepage, which has a lot of tourneys on the schedule. So you don't do casuals, you don't MM, you don't just kick it? If the onl;y thing you're having fun wiht or doing at a tournament is the tournament itself you need to get out more. Kick it with more people, fuck I barely played any games outside of a couple IGAU macthes and like 45 minutes of Gundam casuals and SCR was some of the most fun I'd had in a minute.I think part of the problem is not many people are so excited to physically travel to bar or a pool hall or a comic book store to have to wait in line for 10-20 minutes to play a game one match, lose and get back in line for 20-30 minutes just to play a second match to possibly lose again lol. So you want games to be mad homogenizedOK, here's the thing with MKX we should all hope for IMHO... Take it or leave it...
1.) We should hope all the characters get around the same frame rates for each basic attack. This leaving no one character out of the loop. If a basic attack requires more frames because of a longer animation then simply make it look as if it comes out faster by speeding up the animation (eg cutting out frames). There would still be room to move attack speeds around from character to character with crouching variations to standing frame rates mixed up amongst the cast to make different characters feel different and go with their play-styles.
2.) Advantages on special moves should by definition have a maximum limit, and ALL characters should never break that limit and be limited to a max of 2 moves that reach max limit. This making the game as balanced as it can be IMO. For example +4 on hit seems good as a limit, with -4 on block as a max negative limit, and so forth.
I realize these are thing NRS will probably ignore, but to balance out a game so that it really comes down to player skill is something short of impossible but with character design guide-lines I think it would be possible (I could be wrong) IDK).
Tell me I'm crazy, tell me I'm wrong I don't care, but after all the games I've played in my 43 years of life. Having design limitations on each character just seems to be the best option to make a game as fair as possible for everyone involved, and if done right the first time around the game developers will just save time and money not having to patch the game. Of course this is just a pipe-dream probably, but a guy can have dreams right?
You spoke words of gold and wisdom. You are dead on sir, no need for you to put IMO, your opinion is solid and right.OK, here's the thing with MKX we should all hope for IMHO... Take it or leave it...

100% agree. Maybe it would be worth breaking it out by game, or making a select game feature. It's nice to see all of the events, but it can difficult to discern what is being played. Also, we can strongly encourage folks to post their local events. I know that there are more scenes representing more regions, but there isn't anyone posting them.I think that moving forward, we definitely need to do a better job of making the list of big events + info about them clear and easy to follow.
