Let's talk about throw immunity

So, last night I was playing a set against Espio's MMH and I was getting really salty at how many moves in this game have throw immunity. There was one particular part that actually made me put my controller down in rage/disbelief. He threw out a mb pillar and I teleported through it and went for a punish with Shazam's high command grab. Martian was still finishing his animation for the pillar and I did the grab while he still had his hands up and it just whiffed. Things like this should not be throw immune. It also happened with his far orb.

I can understand some moves being immune but it seems like if you press any button when I throw out a grab, you get out of jail for free. Maybe I'm just salty but I honestly feel like there shouldn't be THIS much immunity in the game.

Given MMH has one of the largest throw ranges in the game (he needs it), I'm not sure why many moves having throw immunity would be a bad thing against MMH.

Throw immunity is dumb as fuck. Other than Grundy trait grab combos it's not like they're any easier to pull off that basic bnbs and base throw damage is garbage any way so what exactly is throw immunity there for? To gimp the entire cast just cause Grundy trait throws can be performed by 6 year olds?

This game is not balanced on the basis of making high damaging moves hard to do.

So no, that's not the reason throw-immunity exists.

I see where you're coming from but with so much throw immunity it makes playing true grappling characters like Shazam and Grundy have a sort of a handicap. Especially with Shazam since a lot of his offense comes from whiff punishing and command grab setups.

Was it good for you?
Bro I have the same problem with grundy. Its stupid. Dont have an answer to your question but your not the only one raging over throw immunity.

That's why I have a question mark there, cause I don't know what it's there for. It serves no purpose other than to gimp throws which aren't in need of gimping in the first place.

It's definitely not intentional. They're not targeting throws or grapplers for any reason at all really.

NRS just isn't very experienced with making grappler characters. Grundy and Shazam where basically their first try. Hopefully they'll be better by the time MK10 rolls around.

But the state of throwing in Injustice just reflects the traditionally small role command throws play in the game.

There are several characters that present this problem to shazam but martian is one of the worst, I feel your pain bro. It's pretty annoying when you make the correct read only to have your HM whiff and get full combo punished for it.

I kinda disagree with this whole thing. When was the last time you made a nrs style fg? They don't design grapplers the same because their games dont play the same. 98% of you are using Shazam wrong, and 99% think they're playing Zangief when they choose Grundy.

Im just saying, you could do better.

mmh has the most throw immunes in the game. his orbs are even throw immune... i think maybe that has to do with your salt?

Whiffed OH teleport = throw immune
B3 = throw immune

I'm sure he's got more, but WTF?

Yep most of you are nailing it.

NRS made tons of moves that are airbourn while standing which makes you throw invincible similar to how Rose's close-standing medium kick is throw invincible in SF4 because she hops a little.

The problem though is that Capcom intentionally put the mechanic in whereas NRS were just unfamiliar with the coincidences that would arise from it.

It actually helps Raven TONS in the Grundy matchup because the throw invincibility on b23 so I hope they learn from this and actually add it to characters on purpose to combat certain situations.

Day 1 phenomenal grab immune
That moment when you are playing grundy and think you punish someone with wcc just to see it whiff and then you get punished...
