Hello good people of TYM, I'm not a huge poster but a pretty decent lurker around these parts. I love playing in tournaments and am in need of more experience, so I decided to look into a NY/NJ area tourney since I'm from northeast MA and the drive would be worth it. I saw Shock posted the Main Event thread a couple weeks back and it seemed interesting. Since my New England injustice scene is losing steam I figured this would be a great chance to keep in shape before GUTS 3 happens (LINK). Luckily, at the same time @DarthArma came into our NE thread looking for tournaments up here. When I told him I might come he immediately offered me a place to stay, which was incredibly cool of him. I took him up on it, and finally convinced my friend @imblackjames to get the time off work like the same day. So after weeks of trying to get someone to come I had a road trip co-pilot and then pulled a scumbag move on arma and asked if his generosity would hold two people, I'm glad to hear it did.
So after a four and a half hour drive and almost going to the wrong venue, we arrived. The place, Yestercades new location in Somerville NJ, was amazing! All the arcade cabinets, pinball machines, pool table and air hockey are free once you pay to get in the door. It was fun meeting everyone and playing @EMPEROR_JUPITER 's Black Adam and @jboogie607 's scorpion in MK9 casuals while everyone setup.
Once the tournament started, I got bodied by @RapZiLLa54 @G4S Claude VonStroke @Scoot Magee and a fourth who I honestly forget, long day. I went 0-2 in both NRS games. I stated ahead of time though James was the better New England representative and he did well in both, even putting himself on the power rankings. Sorry for my super monotone commentary in MK9, I'm really loud and sarcastic in real life so I reigned it in a lot.
After that there were plenty more casuals and general hilarity (shoutout to @Frantastic23 and his amazing shit talk during Gears). Then things officially got real when eight of us went to IHOP at 2am. @KDZ taught me how do the Shang Tsung face, I witnessed @Indecisive 's unparalleled ability to drink mango drinks, and we got to tech talk with @Shock and @Jaxel. Then there was another harrowing trip to Arma's house through the fog and to the welcoming meow of his cat.
The next day had more fun, alt casuals, batman knowledge, WWE2k14, cinema chat, and most of UFGT top8 with Arma, his cool brother, and @Decay II. Thanks so much to everyone for making James and I feel super welcome and making me realize how much more practice I need. Special extra thanks to DarthArma for his crazy nice demeanor and house and generosity all weekend. Did I miss anyone? Let me know below and I'll say hi and sorry next time I come down there.
