The Evil Within...

The axe that clears the forest
If you're looking for survival horror, this game called The Forest may be of interest. Looks fucking creepy as hell.

That's a compilation of all the trailers. I believe it comes out next week.

The more I see of this game, the more shittier it looks.

- Recent previews reveal lots of senseless gore that continues the trend developers have been following. Gore isn't scary. Especially senseless gore. It's just stupid and disgusting.
- This "Revuk" character seems like another Amnesia-esque enemy. Chases you everywhere, invincible, and deals massive damage. Again, not scary. Annoying. Not being able to kill something eliminates the factor of choice. Fight or flight. All these characters do is spook you out once you turn a corner leaving you to turn around and run. I think having the choice to face an enemy or not is the pinnacle of fearful enemy interactions.
- Apparently you can use environmental weapons to aid you in fighting enemies that come in ample supplies. That's lame as well. Item management just got a lot less important.
- There are "contextual executions" like Resident Evil 4. Thanks for the action-packed action in my "survival horror" game.

Looks like another failed attempt to bring back survival horror. That genre is pretty much dead. We've moved from Survival Horror to Action Horror to Haunted House Horror to Gore Horror.

So far, 6/10 might rent.

Get on that hook
The Evil Within and Alien Isolation got me stoked. I miss the days when survival horror was actually survival horror, not action games with survival elements and some jump scare.

Excuse me while I boot up the ole emulator and play RE2

You're excused, allow me to *cracks knuckles* to dust off my RE 1,2, and 3 games on discs and play it on my PS3.

Thats looks alot similar to the Slenderman game, the monsters jumping looks like Slenderman has gone primal.

I wish I could say the same thing. But I sadly no longer have my 60GB PS3 that was fully backwards compatible. :/

Oh well, ROMs will always suffice. :D

This looks cool. Last serious like horror game I played (so not counting RE4 or DR3 or L4D or any of that) was Condemned around the time the 360 first came out. It was awesome.

Think I might pick this up.
