Introduction and Question....

Greetings boils and ghouls! I am Shellhead85 and am new to NRS Community. I am an avid SSF4 player and I love Injustice and MK too! I will be maining Hugo in Ultra, and I am not quite sure who in Injustice yet! Which is my questionzorz..............

I sometimes overanalyze things and I was wondering if someone may be so kind as to give me an outline in order of importance as to what I should work on when choosing to learn a character, I went to Batmans combo thread and there is 6,000 combos listed and my brain fainted...Lulz. Just an outline in what I should learn first moving up as things become implemented in my practice. I am on Xbox Live, I use a Fightpad and am always up for matches even if you beat me senseless. Thank you to whomever answers my question and it is very splendid to meet all of you, I hope to level up my game and contribute to the community as a whole.

Welcome to TYM :)

Easiest thing to do is to:

1) Get a feel for the basics, what the strings are, what the specials do, etc.
2) Watch some good match footage and see how people are playing the character

#2 will help you understand which combos to use and when, what the character's tools are best used for, how the neutral game works, basic offense and defense, etc.

Usually the first combos people learn are in the "BnB" category.. But you have to pace yourself according to your execution. Meaning that if you're having trouble consistently nailing 8-hit combos, trying to do that 20-hit max-damage BnB should probably wait for a while. Start as slowly as you need to and add piece by piece.

Ten days late.... oh well.
Welcome to this site of knowledge and chronic melodrama, named TestYourMight.com!

CrimsonShadow has answered your question well. Once you get a grasp of the basic stuff and get really familiar with the game, you should start looking through the "Fighting Philosophy" sub-forum to further improve yourself.

Let's play some games! XBL: ShinobiSpectre. I'm west coast if that means anything to your online connection level. I will also gladly chat with you to talk about Injustice if you feel like.

Understand the game mechanics. My first time playing I just learned a combo or two and jumped into online. No knowledge of push block, armoring moves, or even Clash. The tutorial helps you learn the important mechanics.

Movement is VERY DIFFERENT FROM STREET FIGHTER. A lot of times walk speeds are not the best and characters rely more on dashing in and forward movement specials/strings. Footsies and other such fundamentals are important but do not expect similar styles, obviously.

What do you enjoy in a character? Vortex setups? High damage? Fast strikes? Uber Grapples? What playstyle do you enjoy?
Or for other people like me, I just play characters who I think look cool. I am huge Captain Marvel fan so I play Shazam and really only him. Is there a character that just speaks to you from comics in Injustice?
Try hitting up practice mode, hit random select and have 2 random characters. Mess around with one and simply switch controls to the other to see what characters you like/dislike.

The last approach to character I can think of. And one I am not fond of personally but hey it could work for you. Is to look at tier lists, and see where characters place. There is nothing set in stone but there is a general consensus on where characters place. Thank fully character diversity really shines in Injustice so there are few if any characters that are not worth looking into.

Once you decide on a character, learn BnB's yes but before that just mess around with the tool and get a feel for how the characters moves, approaches, etc. Focus on basics like normals, movement, specials, and then combos. Setups and meaty attacks and other such nonsense are definitely useful but are not exactly the best to start with.

I have a keen eye for all things broken.
I usually learn the normals/strings first including frame data which is conveniently in the pause menu. After that I learn combos and figure out the best bnb for every launcher or situation.
