@KHTC_Biohazard and I are currently on our 12 hour bus ride back to Toronto after attending ECT and we felt like sharing our experience with everyone interested in reading so be prepared for a long ass post.
WARNING THIS POST IS EXTREMELY LONG SO GET SOME POUTINE AND ENJOY
To start things off, as everyone knows, this was our first time traveling for an Injustice tournament so we didn't really know what to expect. When we got on that first bus from Toronto to NY we just thought about how exciting it will be to play with and meet players that we've been watching on stream for the past year. Upon arriving in NY and then going to the hotel in Secaucus, we got to meet our room mates for the weekend @Groove Heaven and @Jeremy KO along with two other marvel players. These guys were truly awesome room mates and it was a pleasure meeting/rooming with them this past weekend.
During Friday night it felt like a mission to find out where some Injustice casuals were taking place. We met up with Miggy, Steve and Sal, a great group of guys that made us feel like gods because of how skilled we were lol. What we really wanted was to find the players that could help level up our game which later happened when we saw @xKhaoTik and asked about where everyone was playing.
We ended up going to @EMPEROR_JUPITER's room to play with everyone and it was our chance to meet a bunch of these guys for the first time. It felt surreal to be surrounded by all these skilled players that we've been watching for the past year. I honestly felt more star struck being in a room with these guys than if I was having dinner with some movie star (insert actors name here). Jupiter, @DarthArma, @astronout, @Frantastic23 , @7L, @Zyphox, @WITNESS, Khaotik, @Revolver, @LanceMonsoon, @UsedForGlue, and more were all there (sorry if I didn't tag you). We both got to play some casuals with some of the guys there and it was great to see everyone playing a game we all love and enjoy together in the same room.
The next day was Saturday so it was time for pools. Bio was up against people such as @Captain Oxygen, witness, @Shock, and revolver and I was set up to compete with @CD jr , Arma, @MK_Chameleon (Viking 305). Bio made it out of pools by beating shock, oxygen and witness while losing to revolver and I made it out of pools by beating ChiefGief, CDJR, Viking 305 and losing to Arma. Unfortunately Bio didn't have his matches streamed but I was fortunate enough to have mine on stream and I want to thank Miggy, Steve and Sal for their support and 'CANADA' chant when I beat Viking 305 on stream .
Making it out of pools and into top 16 for the both of us already felt like a huge accomplishment, this being our first major and all. Bio was set to face @KDZ and I was set to face Chris G. When it came time for the match, it's unfortunate that the first amount of stream time that Bio got didn't really showcase his skill (as many players that he played with can attest to). Coming up short, he placed 13th at ECT. When it came time for my match against Chris G multiple people were coming up to me and telling me to not be nervous because he is after all, Chris G. But I could tell that from pools and such that he wasn't on his A game and the fact that he doesn't take this game seriously like Marvel made me feel not so nervous. I ended up beating him 3-0 and was then set to face @Peckapowa to make it into top 8 and oh boy did I want it. I ended up beating him 3-0 as well and was congratulated by everyone which was an awesome feeling.
After top 16 was finished Bio and I were gonna go eat and ended up going to IHOP with @Tom Brady, @RM xSTRANGERx, @AK/RM GamerBlake, Oxygen, 7L, Khaotik, Astronout, Viking 305 and Witness. It was definitely one of the highlights of this whole trip. It was great to get to know these guys and hear DJ, Brady, and Khaotik go at each other for their lack of accomplishments and who the better x was at whatever else they were talking about lol. And don't get me started on these nerfs that Flash 'needs' according to Oxygen lmao. After a great meal and conversation it was greatly appreciated for having the bill covered by Stranger, you really didn't have to do that but it was really nice of you to do so.
Upon getting back to the hotel, we went over to Jupiter and Lance's room to play some casuals where we also got to play with @Grr, @KingJamez12 , and @RNLDRGN. Jupiter foolishly issued a challenge to money match his superman for $20 in a FT5 and I accepted. I won. Bio and KingJamez also MMed and Bio beat him in some extremely close sets that we wish were recorded for future viewing. Shoutouts to @Jonitti for some DS matches with Bio as well.
On Sunday before top 8 was set to go I arrived in the ballroom to see Zyphox giving Grr some last minute MU experience for our first match. I decided to get some casuals going too so I played with Peckapowa and @Ray Riazy and I gotta say I was impressed by the both of them. Pecka was playing much better than when I faced him in losers and Ray Riazy was playing really well for a MU that is very much against Raven's favor.
When it came time for me to face Grr, it felt great to have my new friends supporting me (Miggy, Steve, Sal @Indecisive etc) and I managed to beat him thanks to all the MU experience I get from playing Bio. When it came time to face Jupiter... I was nervous to say the least. Everyone knows his Martian is the best and the last time I played him it was not pretty. I was worried I would get freed up on stream but I played my best and managed to take game 1 while losing the next 3 but I must say that last match was close as fuck. I placed 5th at my first major and I'm completely satisfied with it. I lost to Arma and Jupiter who are two of the greatest players I've seen. Their match in Top 16 Winners was fucking amazing. Can't be mad about that.
After the tournament was over, we got some casuals going with @Icy Black Deep, @CT Dom, @SonicFox5000, Viking 305, @Lith, Indecisive, @Rico Suave, @AK SaltFace , GamerBlake, and Arma. I was stupid enough to MM SonicFox in a FT5 and lost but I managed to win it back in a FT10 First hit wins match and then again in a double or nothing. Those 'matches' were pretty fucking hype lol.
And that was pretty much the trip. Obviously not everything was covered but that was pretty much what went down. It was a great experience that we wish could happen more often for us.
Some shout outs:
Shout outs to Grr for being the nicest person to walk this fucking earth. As soon as he met Bio, he showed him that Bane love and supported him while playing KDZ and hanging out with this guy was a blast.
Shout outs to Saltface for giving Bio his Harley sprite that hes worn to every top 8 he's been in. It was unexpected and it means a lot.
Shout outs to Indecisive for supporting me in my top 8 matches. I feel he deserves a second shout out for supporting Canada .
Shout outs to Miggy, Steve and Sal for staying to watch Injustice top 8 just to see if I'd win.
Shout outs to @AK Pig Of The Hut for calling that I'd make top 8 at ECT a month ago.
Shout outs to GamerBlake for his enthusiasm while playing his tournament matches. It made watching them so much more enjoyable.
Shout outs to Tom Brady for inviting me and Bio to the dinner on Saturday night (cause we were planning on eating some shitty canned food in our room...).
Shout outs to @flipkev for being the nice guy that he is and interviewing me before top 8 to give the viewers some accurate info.
Shout outs to SonicFox for coming up with the FT10 First hit wins MM. That was too much fun.
Shout outs to Zyphox for helping me out with my pre-ECT plans. It was much appreciated.
Shout outs to Jupiter for not being the dick that he is on stream chats. Canada ain't free. He actually turned out to be a super chill guy. Oh and congrats on winning ECT .
Shout outs to Lance for also being super chill and I respect that support you give Jupiter each and every time he goes out to a tournament. He's lucky to have you.
Shout outs to @Tusk1407 (ChiefGief), Groove Heaven, and Jeremy KO for being awesome and supporting me and Bio throughout the tournament.
Shout outs to astronout, Khaotik and Tom Brady for their charisma and humor during the RM dinner. It sucks that astronout won't be going to anymore tournaments... it was great to have the chance to meet you. Good luck with everything in the future.
Shout outs to Oxygen for his horrendous list of nerfs that Flash 'needs'.
Shout outs to Saltface again for trying to buy Bio's Harley arcade stick for $200.
Shout outs to Revolver for his awesome showing at the tournament and chill personality. Lex Luthor WILL win a major some day.
Shout outs to Ronald Rogan, the only guy going to Toryuken next weekend from the states. If it doesn't meet your expectations for a major/regional/local we're sorry in advance. (And shout outs again to Grr for wanting to come to Toryuken in the trunk of Ronald's car).
Shout outs to Rico Suave and Arma for playing some great matches with me after the tournament. You guys are two of the best players I've ever fought.
Shout outs to the Injustice Canada community for supporting Bio and I throughout the tournament.
Shout outs to the TYM community and our Khaotic members for the support.
Shout outs to my mom for letting me and Bio come out to ECT on Mother's Day weekend.
And a SINCERE shout out to EVERY SINGLE person we met this weekend at ECT. You all made us feel welcome and accepted at a level we were never expecting. We didn't feel like outsiders coming into our first major/regional/local (somebody clear this up) and we wish we could chill/play injustice with you guys more often. You'll see more of us in the future! (Possibly UFGT for starters)
