the question revolves around having a hard time starting anything with escrima stance. i can do just fine in staff and look to get to that stance as quickly as possible...

so the question would be are there any basic setups that give you an opening for escrima strings or a free jump in?

Okay so Escrima is all about scatterbombs. But to use a scatterbomb, one must become a scatterbomb. You must eat scatterbombs, drink scatterbombs, you must taste scatterbombs, and only then will you be able to use the infamous move that is... Scatterbombs.



Seriously though, Escrima is all about Oki pressure and frame-traps imo. I guess the most basic setup would be a staff spin ender, then dashing up and doing some escrima frame-traps/oki pressure. Also, B2 xx Flipkick is a good way to get things started.

f213, 112, b2, d1, d12 are all of his main strings in escrima
113 is for punishes
33 is a good string to use after a frame trap, it can be cancelled into staff spin, ground pound, spark, or flip kick
most of his normals can be cancelled into a cross up flip kick against most of the cast
I usually try to zone with ground sparks and abuse his frame traps.

Main problem is not being able to start anything in escrima.

Like I know from watching the videos that these other guys linked me to, that d1 gives you a 112 and 112 gives you a free 33... I've practiced the 33 and 22 into ground spark cancels and such. Problem is... getting an opening to use this stuff.

Oh and I'm planning to be there for sure.

After your opponent has ended their offense you can read a back dash and chase them into 112 pressure or simply reverse pressure immediately if you read they won't back dash. You can also condition your opponent to not wake up after combos. Then end your combos by dashing up to 112 range and pressure once they stop waking up.
