My take on the Hit Box

Long time lurker first time poster, but here it is, my take on the Hit Box. Well its not even like a Hit Box really, its better. Just look past the paint job, its so hard to paint outside in windy Florida, and it got even worse after I dropped my box and rage threw it a few times.

And here are some spares. Or possibly for eBay when I can find a good day to paint.

Uh excuse the noobish question, but what in the hell is a hitbox? I thought you were referring to ... well... hitboxes in the game. That looks like a joystick, without the stick and many extra buttons.

That's precisely what it is. It's a pad that ditches the stick and uses buttons for directions. It has a learning curve for non-keyboard style players, but it increases accuracy and ease of execution once mastered. The three buttons in the top left are Left, Down, Right, with the thumb button being Up.

I didn't like stick either, so I bought all the stuff to make one complete controller to use myself and I have enough wood and stuff leftover to make many more empty boxes to sell (hopefully) to recoup the price of building my keeper. All the internal parts are the expensive things anyway.

Old fashioned MK fans like arcade sticks.

I also don't get how it's not a hitbox let alone how it's better. It's definitely more suited for MK than a standard HB because of the buttons on the right, the layout of the directionals doesn't look like it fits your finger layout well, so that part definitely isn't something I like about your design. If you're comfortable with it, cool, but I've also made my own HB and couldn't see myself going with anything other than the slanted layout that the "official" hitbox uses.

That's pretty cool. I was thinking about making a Hit Box styled input device eventually. What did you use for the PCB, buttons, and such?

Also what are the 4 buttons along the back? I would assume they'd be Start, Select, Home, and Guide, but then what are the two smaller buttons at the top? Oh! maybe L1/L2 and R1/R2.

Regardless, it looks really nifty. Personally I would have went with a more standard button lay out, but if it's comfy for you then that's all that matters!

How you liking it so far? I'm pretty used to it. My bro was laughing his ass off when I was down to the end of a match playing as raiden so I just mashed left right and 3 over and over :) I had to move my jump button up farther than that (pic of mine in the thread I made)

The two buttons on top are L2 and R1, and the four on top are start, select, home, and a spare that I had planned on using for a console select because I had planned on using a PS360+ pcb but development is taking too long, so I went with a MC Cthulhu instead.

@People that wonder why its better than an official Hit Box: Because it has a MK layout of course!

I chose the movement key layout like that because its very similar to using WASD and a space bar. I though of using it when i put my right hand on 3 block and 4 and realized how comfy it is.

Looks great! Those things really interest me, being that I'm on the computer all the time typing. I think I could get near perfect execution all the time!

I really need to get one of these. I've been on the waiting list with the official company for a month and I still haven't gotten mine. Time to start looking for alternatives.

i am one of the MANY people on the waiting list on HB's site. So, if you have the mats for the box...if I sent you the money for the internal parts + money for labor, would you be willing to make one for me?:headbang: I would be forever in your debt!!:D

That last pic shows 3 that just need paint that I had planned on finishing and putting on eBay. They aren't exactly like the blue one though, they have 3 24mm holes on the face for start, select, and home and then then on the front side there is a hole for the USB plug, so basically no L2 and R1 buttons, but those are just for menus and stuff anyways. I could finish painting one of those and put it on eBay for you if you want, but it would just be the box. If the demand was high enough I could potentially make one of these a day, and even do vewlix or any other button layout combined with the movement layout.

Only thing is, I'm unsure if I'm allowed to advertise myself here. Probably can't.

So, no to the internal parts? Damn, oh well, Yea I'd be willing to buy the box. If you want to finish it, I could buy it on the 15th (Im in the Army and thats when I get paid) Other than that, all I'd need is the buttons, a PCB (probably from a PS3 Controller) wires and tools, right? I appreciate the help, I can't stand waiting on them anymore.

PS, your not really advertising, just helping another MK/HB fan out :D
