Lol I know. Those were my first games and spinal is still new to me.
The next set I was playing much better and even landing my manuals. I'm at that awkward stage between auto doubles and manuals. That ass beating I got was payed back when he picked fulgore. We will record again soon and you see much improvement.
Sometimes it's more advantageous to just end a combo and drain the opponent's instinct/meter through juggling, as that's what separates him from other character's and how he gets a leg up.
You both are missing a major part of the combo breaking game. If you are not locked out in a combo and your opponent does a shadow move you should either be breaking the combo of feigning that you are going to break it (banking that they will counter breaker which if missed will drop the combo). In that video both of you were just doing free shadow moves to each other during times when neither of you were locked out. The dojo goes over the mechanics of breaking shadow moves but basically the concept is a shadow move has 5 hits, to break the shadow move you need to hit combo breaker on 3 of the 5 hits the announcer counts out each hit for you which is also a notification to the person doing the combo that you are trying to break them.
So in the end there are a lot of mind games at play, but the defender is at an advantage since 2 of the 3 options are in their favor which is why top players generally only do shadow moves when they have their opponents locked out.

I was trying to breaker his shadow moves but kept mistiming and getting locked out. He got some if his biggest combos by me just messing up the timing.
In the long run it will be different because I will be able to time it right more consistently.
Ah yeah I saw those, I didn't know you were trying to break the shadow, haha it seemed like you might have just been guessing on the next auto double after the linker since you were doing it pretty late into his shadow moves.
Regardless, sounds like you are having a blast which is great. Good luck.
