Thanks for the Mileena heads up. I'm also confused as to why Kitana doesn't win the matchup vs Reptile? It seems like she can successfully keep him out and move away also if she needs to?

Surprisingly, from my experience it is kind of easy to zone her out. She can't rely on square boost because it is punished by elbow dash. She basically has to get in Reptile's face to win. 6-4 Reptile imo.

Kitana's fans are very good projectiles, but the problem lies within that spit does a huge number on their viability in this matchup. Reptile can literally win a projectile war just by spitting. It's an even trade, and spit travels fast enough to catch her during the recoil of air fan, thus putting Reptile at a huge advantage. Also, she has to be careful trying to fan after jumping over forceballs, since she can bounce back into them (This happened a number of times vs CD, actually). The projectile game, oddly enough, is one that Reptile has a decent advantage over her in. Up close, d1 is punishable by dash, but it's kinda difficult unless you only smell d1 coming and not d1 xx cutter (where you can simply duck under cutter and uppercut anyway).

It's not heavily in Reptile's advantage...close to even...like 5.5-4.5. She has to get in to win.

Major bummer. Was thinking of picking up Kitana but I don't know now. I really get blown up by a local Reptile:( My main is JC and hate counter picking, but Reptile/Raiden are frustrating as hell lol

If I were you I would just keep playing the matchup.

There used to be a Mileena player (JGuthrie) who would smack me down hard. Like I wasn't able to get more than 5 hits on him the entire match for quite some time. But I ended up fighting him so many times that I know the matchup so well. I can beat him probably 50/50 of the time now and whenever I play other Mileena's I feel like I have a huge matchup experience advantage.

Now Mileena still remains to be one of my toughest matchups but it is much more bearable then what I used to think. I pick up side characters for fun but I don't think I'll ever counter pick for the reason of avoiding a specific matchup. If I were you I wouldn't pick up a character solely to counterpick unless you really really really hate the matchup and can't get used to it.

I'd say Kabal, Mileena, Sektor, Kung Lao and Liu Kang are good characters to learn if you do want to counter-pick. Sub Zero, CSZ, can also be good choices if you are very good with them.

Hey guys, I have a quick little question. I seem to have trouble against Mileena, Sub, Kitana, and Smokes. So my question is: What character covers most of Reptile's bad match-ups? Like I said before, my bad match-ups are Mileena, Sub, Kitana, and Smokes. I was thinking Rain because he has a nice teleport that can get me out of the corner when being pressured by Sub(clone) in the corner. So, I want to hear from y'all, Reptile experts. So in conclusion, what character covers "most" of Reptile's bad match-ups? Rain?

Hey Rep players little question for you guys...

I'm a little curious how you guys feel about the Sub Zero match as a whole? I see the list as in between 6-4 and 5-5. I could understand both reasonings, but I'm curious why some of you lean towards one matchup number and not the other.

When I played at Evo I only lost to 2 Reps. I didn't understand the match as a whole at the time, and after playing it so much I feel that Clone is actually not helpful until corner situation. Reason I say this is because when I was playing, if I did a clone, it would reset full screen postioning which is adv to Rep. So I tried a different approach by staying mid screen/range and I feel this is better but I'm wondering what you guys think in terms of pace/positioning/etc.

Today i was playing against a good nightwolf and for some reason i kept falling for that low kick start up combo they go for not only that his ex axe are too good. o.o does anyone else think otherwise?
 
Man whats the best way to stop these new breeds of Scorpians? I can figure the mix ups out but the constant teleports and crossovers is there anyway to stop it? A poke something its killing me. Over!

when scorpians keep doing these teleports I intend to just dash out of the way so i wont get hit.

just before cage does d3/f3 after b33, does Reptile have anything to do to poke him out of this pressure string?

Btw, Reptile vs Kung Lao is very easily 5-5, if not better, and Reptile vs Sub is still 6-4 even with the EX slide buff he got as well as the freeze buff, because Reptile's own EX slide buff evens it out.

I think that the Reptile v. Sub matchup is 5.5-4.5 for Reptile at best. Sub is now realyl dangerous when he has meter, pretty much negates all zoning. I do think overall Reptile probably has better tools but I think Sub's buff really helped him out in this matchup.

Also against Kung I can see why it'd be even, but personally Kung will probabyl always be a pain in the ass for me to fight.

After playing a few solid Reptile's this week, one guy who's got a crazy Reptile named MasterBet or something, granted there was lag too and we all know lag+Rep dash=near to unbeatable. I think Reptile is the new top tier/KL seriously lol.

I hate how he can do continuous dashs under jumps, so stupid imo.

As an Ermac player, that match up is heavily against me so I'm weighing options for good Reptiles, Sektor I've had some success with but I don't think he's the best counter for him. Raiden I'm newer with, but also don't like that matchup. I've noticed Sub-Zero's do good against Reptile with the clone and projectile icebal/forceball trades so I'm thinking of doing that.

Although I have had some success with Kabal, I hardly use him but I like to turtle with him and keep people zoned with his saws, dash cancels and gas blasts.

I hear ya man, honestly I kind of feel the same way about THOSE kinds of Reptile players who just use lag tactics and dash where you can't counter them, it's bogus imo. Offline I'd hope it's more fair, but online Rep is bullshit. I respect Rep players who actually do more then just dash every few seconds since they know the lag makes them safe.

I agree I think his dash needs more nerfing, they should make TWO key updates for Reptile. #1, make Reptile's dash like Kabal's on block let his dizzy him so you HAVE a definite chance to punish him and don't make it so that you can cancel it(really? This isn't Kabal's slow as hell dash that you can see coming compared to Rep's) there should not be a cancel his dash option, so stupid imo. And #2, They need to add way more recovery frames on a missed dash, meaning a pause of 2 seconds in between them. I hate how he can just dash, dash, dash, instant dash while someone's jumping at him. So lame...it makes jump ins on him virtually moot and pointless.

This wouldn't kill Reptile, just make him a little easier to deal with like KL and his tons of nerfs. I hope NRS considers it or we all know who everyone's picking in future tournaments.

on topic ~ id say now the sindel vs reptile match up is now 5.5-4.5 in reptiles favor. sindel wont be effected by his enhanced slide and now she can do 30% combos more then once a match. hes still better due to his complete game being good upclose and from afar.

You act as if that's Reptile's only combo... Dude, Reptile has other combos...jip, into foceball, combos, his safe invisibility combo/mid combo....he doesn't need the NJP combo. They need to listen to the general populace of players regardless of online/offline, I play the game offline too with my friends and test things all the time.

The fact that he can dash constantly is retarded...and able to cancel it even more so when the move is ridiculously fast. Now I know online is bs with a few characters, granted because of the lag(reptile being one of them) but if you look at the match up chart, he has virtually not bad match ups....he's in favor of majority.

If I said, take away the dash all together THAT would kill Reptile, not nerfing it..there's a difference.

as if reptile needs a 40% combo. you shouldn't have that much damage when you can get a combo anywhere on screen at any time. kung lao has easy ways of getting combos too, what did they do to him? they murdered his damage as they should have. kabal can get combos easy also does he have 40% combos, no he barely has 30%, but reptile, he needs it with his great mix ups zoning movement and pressure

@magic...dude, I get it fine. But I'm saying the fact that you can dash "constantly" on none hit the way he can is lame imo. That works on or offline. I'm not saying kill it completely, just add a tad bit pause frames. Kabal can't do that constantly, so what makes Reptile so special? lol It makes jumping at him utterly pointless and useless if he can just run under it. It was annoying in UMK3, but like someone else mentioned this isn't UMK3 and MK9 is actually faster in terms of smoothness of the characters. At least in UMK3 you could get him with a JK here and there or low kick poke, this game? Can't even touch him lol. It forces you to stay on the ground and then it's a guessing game, block his strings ending in acid hand or slide. Or it's do I stand high or low. The moves come out way fast for you to be right every time. The slide I can see, it's a slide should be fast. But the dash needs more nerfing imo.

The dash and lag is no doubt a result of the online play, I have no issues with punishing him as you can easily offline but my beef is more so with the little pause time in between the dash move itself. Kano can't instant ball, after the other at "that speed" Ermac can't shoot fireballs at that speed, Kabal can't instant dash, dash, dash unless you block cancel it. See what I'm saying?
