Input Problem?

If you're using the normal d-pad just rolling your thumb from down to either fowards or backwards should work. I use an evil dpad facelift which makes command grabs (down back forwards) much easier. Normal d pad should be fine for just two movements though as long as you roll your thumb in that direction rather than trying to press each direction separately if that makes sense

MK10 IT HAS BEGUN!
happens to me all the time df 1 sometimes turns into df2 with supes i notice its because i try to do the input too fast when that happens when i slowdown it usually does what i wanted it to do in the first place i also have the same problem when playing batman i shoot the sky grapple when im not trying to lol

if the problem is when you're crouching and doing normals, i you poke with D1 and then try to poke with B2, and instead you get DB2: that's MK controls.
If you just cant get specials out, it might be alternate controls.

Pretty sure he's talking KI. Practice. Practice. Practice.

Some observation you can do is if you do a low poke you're probably not hitting forward or back correctly or you may be hitting your attack too early.

Similarly if you do a standing poke you may not be hitting down correctly or you're hitting your inputs too slow.

You just gotta hit up practice find that magic combination, then drill it until it becomes muscle memory.

most likely the issue is they aren't Down>Forward or Down>Back but quarter circles.

these can be a bit unforgiving on a d-pad with thumb-rolling because all 3 direction inputs need to be discrete and in-order

Down > Down+Forward > Forward

This, I found with the ONE pad I actually wasn't hitting forward before hitting my attack button so the move would not come out.

So i hit practice and worked on it deliberately waiting till my brain new i was hitting forward then hitting my attack.

NOW, if you come up with a way to hit the fuckin SRK motion consistently on pad you let me know. lol The struggle is real for me with that one. Makes me wanna drop 200 bucks on a stick or go for a pad hack on my extra One controller.

Stick must be so nice with this game.

Dude I literally just ordered it off of Amazon... as an Orchid main I can't take it anymore, the inconsistent dp wakeups and the dropped combos are too much. Ever since this game came out I dropped Injustice like a bad habit anyways for KI (big fan stemming from the SNES days) so I figured I might as well invest. Plus a stick is basically a must for 6 button fighters.

Have you used a stick before? KI is the first game I got a stick for. There's def a learning curve associated with using one, the grass wasn't as green as I thought. And holy hell is it frustrating to lose to people you are absolutely positive you would have beaten using a pad. I really had to practice getting the fireball and dp motions down on the stick. Honestly I think the quickest device to learn for these 2D's games is still the hitbox unfortunately you can't just buy a hitbox for KI you have to have one modded.

Sometimes I do Jagos DF (firecall) into F roundhouse and get FDF inputs instead - I always thought it was me but I maybe there is a negative edge in KI.

I used one for a bit for Injustice, it'll be alright. It's frustrating as hell losing to people BECAUSE i'm using a pad... I've dropped endless combos trying to end them with a DF+FP or even just a DB+K linker. Beyond aggravating as i'm sure you know lol

There are short cuts you can take on stick - example fbf P = fdf P in most games
As for df I always do half circle vs qtr circle

I think KI's engine is very forgiving once you are inside of a combo in terms of accepting inputs for linkers and enders. I feel like it's generous with the assumptions it makes for what inputs you are using for the linkers. It could be just me but I miss execute openers, anti airs, etc. more than I do linkers and enders.

The same advice applies..
For example: Digo use forward back forward Punch for Ryu's dragon punch as an anti air - it works better than FDF Punch for him.

I use forward half circle for the same outcome.

Personnally I never use qtr circle unless half circle has a different property.

Also, octogates are better that square gates for people learning stick

stick is vastly superior to pad in back-2-block games IMO.

for SRK motion maybe try the shortcut:

Down+Forward > Down > Down+Forward

You don't need to start from neutral either; you can be holding down+forward for any length of time and then to execute the move just nudge the analog stick (or pad?) to down then back to down+forward + punch or kick button, whichever the move requires.

I use this shortcut on stick if I want to wake up uppercut; hold down+forward then snap to down and back to down+forward+punch button

Yeah I'm done with Thunder until my TE2 arrived next week.. His qbc fk is much too inconsistent with pad and I'm getting blown up by Jago wind kicks every time for it.
