Are we as a community ready to enforce 3/5 for the entire tournament?

Are we ready to enforce 3/5 injustice at majors?

My pool at Summerjam 7 ran 8 hours late. yes, 8 hours. I haven't taken injustice seriously since.

Games go 3/5 for basically either of two reasons...
  • Normal matches are too short.
Some games are really fast. An 0-2 blowout can take less than 2 minutes in a game like Virtua Fighter 5. At the same time, a match that goes the full length, with timeouts can still take less than 10 minutes. Going 3/5 allows player's more game time, and thus they can more adequately feel like they got their money's worth.
  • Combat against randomness.
Lets be straight here; Marvel went 3/5 to combat randomness with characters like Dark Phoenix. That being said, its also a terrible excuse to go 3/5. Players who are good enough will learn how to minimize the randomness... and extending sets doesn't actually combat randomness AT ALL. What extending sets does is actually test ADAPTABILITY; it takes a different set of skills to win a longer set than a shorter set.

And now considering these two issues; does Injustice suffer from either of them? No. The game doesn't need to be 3/5; especially if tournaments are run under time constraints.

Noob's saibot or noob saibot's?
button checks are a problem , say there is 8 pools and every one in each pool does a little hollywood practice combo before the match .. 8 in each pool =64 people all doin 1-2 minute button checks , thats an hour right there at least

Think of it this way... when scheduling a tournament; you have to plan logistics. Most TO's don't; which is why so many tournaments run late.

When it comes down to it, you must plan your tournament for WORST CASE SCENARIOS. If in the worst case scenario (matches going time limit, last round, last set), a match can take longer than 20 minutes... then you're running too many sets.

When I've scheduled majors in the past, I've scheduled matches for 15 minute blocks, with everything timed out, so you know exactly how long you have for pools, and how much leeway you have. Of course, this assumes the average match is 5-10 minutes; with 15 minutes being the worst case. When you start prolonging this; the delays on your tournament grow precipitately.

Every big event I've scheduled for, has run flawlessly... except for in a specific case at APEX 2013 where they made all of top 8 in smash bros 3/5, without telling me (they also reset the bracket, thereby doubling the number of matches).

Injustice is super random. Sometimes people can take 70 percent out of their first lifebar with just interactables. Not to mention the randomness of stage select.. Injustice actually has a random factor in it unlike Marvel.

However the game isn't short, which sucks. Cause if it was shorter 3/5 would be a no brainer. Matches can be super short, though. Like I said it's pretty random.

Like Jaxel said, it is logistically impossible to run big majors 3/5 the whole way.

I vote 3/5 for top 8/16 though

You know what game was match up heavy, had random damage, touch of death combos and really short sets? Super Turbo and it has always been 2 out of 3.

only actually "random" things in marvel are

everything

The game itself is not random, ridiculous sure, but not random. But then again I say this about any game that's not Marvel.
 fixed

Can there also be a rule about button checks that don't take 5 minutes?

Because... for real...
Nah man. Everyone needs that REO button check. Each character takes a lifebar and you go get a cup of coffee before you start your match.

It should be 2/3 all the way up to Top 8 and then 3/5. Those tournaments and streams drag on as it is, it would be unbearable if it was 3/5 all the way. That is all.

How did your pool run 8 hours late if the first pools were scheduled at 4PM (didn't get the pools til after 4) and we finished by 130AM? I begged Big E to start the SJ pools earlier because I knew the shit would finish mad late.

4PM: (MK ROOM) Injustice pools (to top 8)

I had the very last pool, started at Midnight. :( I guess maybe 6-7 hours late then? Pools started at 4 and I played at midnight so I just automatically said 8 hours. Realistically more around 6.

I'm in no way denying that your pool ran late, but if we did pools 1 and 2 at 4, 3 and 4 at 6, 5 and 6 at 8, then your pool should have started 10PM. If the intervals were 90 minutes, then if should have started at 8:30. I just want to be certain that 8 hours was impossible. I apologized to everyone for the lateness, as did Big E. Tournament should have started at noon, MK9 at 4.
