Best Controller for Xbox 360

This is good info, @Red Reaper in case you don't see it I'll tag you. My thumbs are pretty big so I don't think extra space is an issue, and I've got a few extra controllers laying around. Gonna pull the trigger, thanks man!
Thanx for tagging me. That sounds great...

I don't have an Xbox so it's probably not a worthy investment for me but it's good to know.

Hey guys,

Since the 360 pad is pretty rubbish to put it kindly I am looking to purchase another controller to play fighters with. I came across this one, the MadCatz Pro Controller.

I wanted to know if anyone has used this before and if so, is it a good controller to use for fighters? If not, are there any other controllers that can be recmmended to buy? I know a lot of people will suggest I should use a stick and I did try using one for about three months, but I just prefer pad.

Many thanks for your help.
This is the same pad that was used for Soul Cal V and UMvC3 at Super Battle Opera in 2012 based on the recommendation of the guy who won SCV at EVO that year.

The best part is that you an swap the DPad and analogs around, and even use a Saturn/Sega style DPad.

I swear by madcatz fightpads. By which I mean brawlpads/SF/SFxT ones. I've used all 3 for this and MK and they've always been really good. Especially if you have a character with instant airs I find it a lot easier to do them than on xbox/ps2/ps3 pads.

Seriously, anything that can be used like a hitbox is amazing. Takes a little getting used to from playing on a pad, but it's a small price to pay for pristine inputs.

Isn't that the same as the SF4 pad? Might be wrong.

Just had a quick look and it does look good. Will read into it.

Mainly Injustice, but I do play MK9, SF4 and Soul Calibur on a casual basis.

I would reccomend looking into a dual modded stick. I play SCV and INJ on stick. I only play MK9 on pad so i dont confuse muscle memory but ive recently given in to learning on stick. At SCR i was not able to bring up the proper menu on my pad converter to switch to p1 and had to reset the unit. Stick would be the best option i think

In the MK9 days I went through a controller crisis and ultimately stuck with a PS2 controller with the etokki 360 converter. If you like playing on pad for NRS games I hiiiiiiighly recommend it.

After going through 3 different Razer controllers with MK I wouldn't recommend them at all, d-pad and triggers broke within three months on each one. Finally bought an eTokki converter and it's been working like a charm.

No the one I have has analogs. Are the controllers you have new or used? Just buy a new one when they're still around.
i have a lot of second hand ones , i used to buy bundles of them and pick out the best one , i also have a few new ones but they break just as easily stupid sticky buttons

Working second hand ones are tough to find, I'm lucky I had a working one. I've went through a few PS2 pads before I decided to try the PSone one, with the PS2 pads I had problems with the dpad.

Its not about how it LOOKS>..

you have to just try it... It responds better than any other 360 pad and ive tried
i meant the d pad looks like the regular x box d pad , meaning it plays like shit .. i know i cant use them anyway

I have an Afterglow 360 pad and I personally don't like it. My biggest beefs with it is that the dpad is not an improvement on the normal dpad and that the analog deadzones are MASSIVE. It only comes wired which is nice from a tournament standpoint, but other than that it's not really an improvement.

Don't use the pro controller for a fighter you'll get pissed trust me. I bought one for FR and it was garbage. Phantom inputs and random inputs it was a huge waste of money.

This thread has been quite busy since I last checked. Many thanks for all the responses.

for mk9 and injustice I use a ps2 pad with etokki convertor.ive tried various other things but imo ps2 pad is the best.
sf4 is a tricky one,not a particularly pad friendly game imo,I currently use a really old ps2 pad,the dpad being all fucked up makes it easier to get the shoryuken motion lol.
You're generally right about SF not being pad friendly. Haven't really looked into converters at all but will do now.

Honestly? Get the 360 transforming pad. I've used one myself and it's really good. No problems what so ever. Then theres the PDP glowing pad which I've heard nothing but great things about. I mainly use a PS2 pad with a converter but I can switch on the fly if I need to use a 360 pad.

Remember though, this is all just preference. In the end, it's whatever your hands feel the most comfortable with. There are top players who use all kinds of pads but again, it's what they are used to.
I used to have the 360 silver pad with the transforming pad but unfortunately after about four months the dpad came off. Since I am now playing more I'm not sure whether that particular pad will last.

One thing I was konsidering getting that might be of interest to you is getting one of the "Evil Controllers" D-Pads. If you already have a 360 kontroller all you need is a Face Lift Kit which is $25 to $30.

It's pretty much a "Hitpad" which I've been wanting. lol.
That looks very interesting and reviews are pretty solid. Might actually go for this as an option.

I do have the SF4 fightad but never used it for injustice. I will give it a try and see how I feel using it.

tried them all and the After Glow beats them all easily imo

How is the dpad on this controller? From the images it doesn't look like there is much difference between this and the standard 360.

Hey people,

I just bought razer sabertooth because I loved the looks, but mainly because its d-pad reminds me of the ps3 one (individual buttons). I play MK on PC and I was used to a generic xbox 360 controller which I've modded with the so-called "pringles" mod. I have to say that I'm extremely dissapointed with razer sabertooth's d-pad. I don't know whether I'm not used to that type of d-pad, but playing on it seems to much harder that on a generic 360 pad from microsoft. Most of the time I can't even jump with that razer pad (the buttons are all separate and I though that would be better). Yeah I know that I should press them somewhere in the middle between the two to jump, but to me that just feels very strange and hard to do.

I don't have a ps3 and I've never played on a ps3 pad, so I really dont know the feeling there. I also have problems landing specials with razer sabertooth. I like to just slide mi fingers from one direction to another, but the specials just don't come out way too often. Does anyone have this controller or any experience with it? Maybe you could advise me some special type of movement that I should do to make it easier. I really don't know maybe I just need to get used to that type of d-pad because I played on the 360 style d-pad for so long. But I really don't know...I've spent a fortune on the sabertooth and at the moment I feel like I threw that money through the window.

I must say that the sabertooth really has great buttons, much better than the generic xbox controller, but the pad just feel very strange to me. Any advice on it would be welcome, this pad looks just like the ps3 pad, how come people always prefer the ps3 pad?

Here's the comparison between the sabertooth and ps pads, they looks very similar.

I slide my inputs on a PS3 pad.. Sometimes you just have to use it and wear it in a lil to feel komfortable on new D-Pads.

Xbox D-Pads are generally not preferred because they aren't as accurate. Especially the more worn in ones.. In my experience some made me have to press harder to dash one way or would make Back/Forward inputs become Jump Back/Jump Forward inputs. If I attempted to kompensate, I would just get a krouch.. It would just be a hassle to get simple or precise things.

I kan see how Sony pads (PS2/PS3/PS4) may feel rougher but once you become used to it, you kan see how much simpler things become and how you have to worry less about the kontroller and kan focus more on the game.

As for the Sabertooth, I haven't tried it.. And some pads that look the same don't always work the same. Sometimes some require harder presses, take longer to register, etc.... (An example of this is how the PS2 pad is harder to press than the PS3 but sometimes this is a good thing because it prevents it from becoming too "wobbly" and inaccurate.)
