What's new

I owe Tom Brady an apology.

Tom, I have long been jumping down yours and other top players throats for blaming "the community " for various blanket statements and making it impossible for consistency to be honoured. I have talked to you privately about this and at times got pretty heated. I am here to tell you that after the events of FR I need to hold dat because you were right.

We had numerous upsets at fr and players who were not EVEN IN ATTENDANCE were turned on and attacked with torches and pitchforks. Players were deemed washed up and the term " of America" was argued by people who weren't even at the tournament.

Tom, you were right. The insurmountable bar in this community is set so high that players are getting called washed up when they aren't even competing at said tournament. We have a philosophy of the now. I don't know of it's short attention spans or what but what you did a week ago doesn't matter in this community anymore. All will be forgotten at the next tournament.

@Tom Brady I have to hold dt and man up and apologize. I will never chastise you for this view again. You were absolutely 100 percent right. I am sorry.

Not to start another debate. But what was your counter-argument to this viewpoint prior to FR? Genuine Curiosity Peak imminent.

Every time Tom Brady/Theo lands a hit on another top player the other one is a fraud, and vice versa.

It's silly that I'm hearing stories about how people are sending other players hate messages because somebody else ALMOST placed as high as them at another tournament, and that means that they are better/worse/who cares. I know for sure I got way too worked up in the stream chat yesterday, because of the vile amount of hate spewed at not only players who weren't in attendance, but entire character forums. Why is the Joker community on blast because Notez is winning on stream? Joker doing well is a collective effort, and I'm sure they are super happy for him doing well. Players like Notez should be getting props instead of the majority of the site hating on everybody who isn't currently beating somebody important.

It's just kind of a bummer that, "Lol hold that shit scrubs, X player won a match!" is being said instead of, "Good shit to so and so for winning!"

My stance was that it was just other top players doing it. Creating massive standards for themselves and stabbing each other in the back. While this remains true, it is DEFINITELY more widespread. Stream monsters and casuals are definitely contributing to this toxic mindset.

Early Injustice was like late MK9: most of the glory went to a handful of great players using great characters. There were lots of great MK9 players, but unless you used one of the top-tier characters then you probably wouldn't going to make it very far. In the early days of Injustice the situation was the same, and certain players made (or remade) a big name for themselves. Then the game was finally patched into a balanced state.

This doesn't mean those first wave tourney champions became scrubs; they were and still are great players. What has happened now is that all of the other great players who played shit characters can now compete, thereby dramatically increasing the pool of potential winners. REO, Tom, Rico, KDZ, PL and anyone else who made a big name during the early Injustice days now have to worry about the entire cast. Players from MK9 who were superb but had average characters can now win at any tourney. The community needs to stop blowing up REO/etc for their losses as it is a discredit to the player who beat them - the character gap is now so small compared to MK9 that wins are mostly determined solely by who played better during that match.

While some players pick whichever character they feel is the most powerful (read: unbalanced), most pick a character based on play-style, past loyalty (especially with long-running franchises such as MK or DC comics) or just their looks. With MK9, this meant that no matter how good you were if you liked Kano you wouldn't place anywhere. With Injustice this means that you almost always have a chance of winning a tourney if you're as good (or better) as the other guys. After the toxic effect MK's final balance (yes it took a couple of years, yes it could well happen to IGAU eventually) had on the NRS community, Injustice getting it right for now should have a very positive effect on the community. People now need to stop blowing up the famous names - even if some of them really do bring it upon themselves - and now accept that there is a massive pool of really great players playing an extremely diverse range of characters Injustice, and all of them have a realistic chance of winning...

Unless they pause the game.

Gotcha. I thank you for your reply. Casuals and randoms alike have done it for a long period of time. However it has gotten more rampant as of "The Patch". Unfortunately since MK9 though. Its been a thing.
