I love how passionate you are at hating Smash"Melee will be joining a roster of six other fighting games..."
I do not understand.
Your ignorance knows no limits. Melee is way more technical than any of your main stream Capcom or Namco games."Melee will be joining a roster of six other fighting games..."
I do not understand.
Smash is waste of a fighting game spot. If MLG wanted to pick up a fighting game, why not Injustice?I love how passionate you are at hating Smash
This is good for the Smash community. I guess their "1 MORE YEAR" chant worked last year.
you might want to consider playing smash. You already play smash-ish in injustice."Melee will be joining a roster of six other fighting games..."
I do not understand.
If Melee isn't a fighting game, IGAU isn't either."Melee will be joining a roster of six other fighting games..."

Isn't Mortal Kombat community dead in US already? And Smash community is giving their old as shit "ducktaped" game one more year at Evo. Sounds like it's alive while our main game is dead after 2,5 years.I think everyone's happy for the Smash community, because we know in the back of our heads the whole thing is held together by duct tape and it will all fall apart eventually.
The Smash game they have to play is Melee, because Brawl has less balance and is not as suitable for competitive play. And Nintendo has no plans to patch- they even distinctly want to move away from making a game that simply provides optional ways to be played competitively at all.
Then there's project M. It's a modded version of Brawl. It was quite successful in bringing Melee-balance and gameplay style to Brawl, but if you think its hard enough to keep Nintendo from kicking up a shitstorm over Melee being screened, just try and get them to go along with an essentially hacked version of the game.
So because they know it's not going to get much better than Melee, it's a constant struggle to retrofit everything. They need to mod brawl to make it like Melee. Wii controllers suck for the game so they need to use old Gamecube controllers which are wearing down over time, and not being made new- or find a suitable converter.
It's just going to get harder and harder for them to keep growing the community, because you have to do more and more to be able to play their ideal competitive version- you'll need an increasingly old system, with an increasingly old controller, or they'll have to keep hacking the new games and providing new controller options to work with it. Either way, the community members or the community leaders will be facing increasingly arduous demands to update, or retrofit to keep competition alive.
It's not surprising they have a huge turnout, given all that dedication to keeping their game alive- but can I see the community still being alive in 10 years the same way as MORTAL KOMBAT or Street Fighter?
I have my doubts.
You couldn't be farther from the truth. Just the Northern California scene has over 1200 active participants. If EVO wasn't around, GENESIS would get the 500+ entrants easy as they have the past few years. They also still have APEX, which annually gets over 500 entrants. In terms of numbers and amount of activity, they're right there with the Capcom scene, and they've only been growing.I think everyone's happy for the Smash community, because we know in the back of our heads the whole thing is held together by duct tape and it will all fall apart eventually.

Lol wut? I don't usually blow up the MK community because I usually feel like too much of an outsider, but the simple reality is that MK9 is dead and the competitive smash scene has has already outlasted it, and they've been around longer to boot. Just to be clear, I'm not insinuating that the MK community should overlook the frustrations they have with the game and continue to support it no matter what, but LBFSHG's: the NRS scene should be so lucky to have the kind of passion and dedication the Smash community has, and most people here would kill to have hacked version of MK9 with a balance patch.I think everyone's happy for the Smash community, because we know in the back of our heads the whole thing is held together by duct tape and it will all fall apart eventually.

You've all misread my posts in so many ways... I've had to color-code my responsesIsn't Mortal Kombat community dead in US already? And Smash community is giving their old as shit "ducktaped" game one more year at Evo. Sounds like it's alive while our main game is dead after 2,5 years.
You're going to hate on Smash as a fighting game and you play Injustice? How does that logic work?"Melee will be joining a roster of six other fighting games..."

At least Injustice has life bars. You're going to hate on Smash as a fighting game and you play Injustice? How does that logic work?
Its both, good catch though. That's pretty big for the Smash community, congrats to them.
Edit: Did you mean Evo or MLG? (article says EVO 2014)
OK, after re-reading your post again, you're right. Your statement didn't actually have anything to do with size or dedication. You were mostly talking about practicality. But to that, I do have somethings to say. You've all misread my posts in so many ways... I've had to color-code my responses
Orange: This is a "tu quoque" logical fallacy.
Blue: This is a "straw man" logical fallacy. I never stated the Smash community wasn't big or wasn't passionate.
Green: This does not contribute to refuting my central point.
My point was NOT that the community wasn't big or dedicated, just that their game, more than any other game, requires an INCREASING amount of dedication over the years. The older the game gets, the harder it is to keep playing it. They need to make the controllers themselves, patch and hack the game themselves, and then hope they can get Nintendo to be "ok" with showing their own homebrew patched version of the game- or at least the TO's to not care what Nintendo thinks. That, or they're going to have to increasingly rely on an old console that won't be producing new units or new controllers- hence increasing demand for homebrew mods and work-arounds.
Give me a reason it's not going to get harder and harder to keep playing a game from 2001 going into 2024- and that you DEFINITELY know this game will still be around in 2020 given it needs to run on old hardware, and Evo will have have a VERY difficult time getting Nintendo to be OK with streaming a modded version of their game.
