Scrub wanting to become non scrub

Hey peeps new here and trying to learn to play injustice. Want to get better but really don't know where to start. It feels like i'm always fighting the controls when I play. Also I have trouble with combos as it doesn't feel natural when I input them. I've spent time in practice mode, but it still feels like i'm mashing them out as quick as I can in order to get them to come out. Next problem with combos is I can't even land them on the cpu and I'm talking real basic stuff.

I'm not expecting to become godlike within a week of playing and fully expect to lose, but its like im not making any progress.

I'd suggest that you just put some time into training mode until you're accustomed to the controls.

The best advice I can give you for becoming a better player is to take losses positively, and look upon each loss as a lesson.

Are you on 360? I'd be happy to jump into practice mode and work on some things with you. The controls in Injustice are pretty muddy, so it just takes some time to get used to them.

Gesture Required Ahead

Get on that hook
Just a pointer for the mashing part, you have to remember that the combo system of this game is dial-in, which means if you mash 111111111, all of that will be inputted and you'll get a string that's appropriate to it.

For example, if you're playing a character who has a 111 and a 113 string, and this following scenario happens:

-Mashing 1
-Character shows 11 animation
-Mash 3
-Character will do 111

it's because you've already inputted a million 1s meaning you're not supposed to press the next part of the string as you see the animation, you have to press it all at sequence. Although the timing varies depending on strings but those are special cases

what character are you playing? i say start with someone like superman, GL, or Batman. look up some basic combo videos with inuts and practice them.

Yea think i'm just going to spend time in training mode this week just moving around and practice blocking. Then next try some combos again.
Sadly I'm only on ps3.
As for characters I was looking to play either Shazam or GL. I haven't gotten around to playing GL yet but Shazam seems fun.
Also can't change the name as it suits me so well. I have long skinny fingers just like E.T :D

I would've LOVED to pass on my Shazam Knowledge as i'm dropping this game, it's got no scene here and no one plays it in the UK. :(
But you're on PS3, i'd read some of the tech I and many others posted in the Shazam forums though.
get used to using his command grabs raw to expose players playing defensively and play very aggressive.

Shazam's is not an ideal character for beginners. His combos are moderately difficult as they involve a command grab and special timing. I'd play GL for now, as his combos are among the easiest in the game.

dont start off with Shazam he's harder to use and not as good as most of the other characters, i highly recommend starting with GL just to get a feel for the game and combos first. oh and im also a GL main ;)

Am assuming that you are new fighting games.
I suggest starting with an easy character to learn the game.
Try batman,Green lantern, superman or aquaman.
am on psn, I be happy to give a private tutorial.

I agree with @BlastX21 and @Fred Marvel ! When I picked this game up (the 1st fighter I tried to get decent at) I had the same problem your having now. I couldn't do any combos and I would input the wrong move. I eventually picked up Doomsday as he is not a character that needs to do combos to win, unlike most of the cast in this game. I'm not saying pick up Doomsday, unless you want to. But since you said you wanted to play GL, go with him 1st since he is one of the better beginner characters in this game! And a BIG TIP is to stay positive whether you win or lose!

Don't get discouraged! Your gonna get bodied! Its gonna happen. Trust me. Hell. I STILL get bodied!

Practice! Practice! Practice! Inputs, combos and all that fun stuff!

Learn from your mistakes!

What also helped me is watching Youtube channels that post Injustice! Watch Combo videos and Tournament matches!

Doing all that REALLY helped me get pretty good at this (at-least online) and I went from playing Doomsday who is hella easy and Braindead as fuck to play. But now I'm playing Lobo! Who is considered to be one of the harder characters to play in this game. When he 1st came out I couldn't do a single combo with him. But now I can do all his bnb's with my eyes closed!

With all that said however! You should mainly focus on is to just get the feel of this game. Learn one combo that does roughly 30% damage or more with whatever character you wanna play and practice it over and over. Than play some online matches.

And the most important thing in any game is to have fun! Cause..whats the point of playing the game if you don't have fun?

No expert here but this is how I learn to not get beat up so bad. Alright, let's say combos are your protein, fundamental is like seasoning, and we need incredible sides, that's where top level players' tournament archives or stream comes in. Now in order to make the dish complete, you need puree or dressing whatever - go online, experience all types of stuff. 1st thing 1st, combos need care, go ahead and familiar yourself with them until the point when your brain leaves your hands do all the work. I'm struggling with fundamentals bc Inj is my 1st n only fg, I suppose time n practice is the answer here. Can't tell you exactly what fundamentals are, I just put spacing, reads, reactions, etc in this category. But as you progress these are crucial especially when your chosen hero or villain has difficult match ups. Then there is this community, countless tournament footage n tech shared by generous people, TYM has helped me to understand almost every aspect of this game, so cherish that. Personally, online games bring out the worst in me, always end up emotionally drained. So get good connection n enjoy some but never get discouraged when you lose as long as you know you can punish certain moves offline just wouldn't be able to online due to objective reasons. Good luck preparing the meal. ;)

Getting back into the game.
Not exactly good here, myself, but remember to just have fun in the beginning!
Get familiar with the controls and combos, start from the bottom. Of course you'll lose, that's a part of learning. Study your mistakes, find ways to overcome them. Look up some pros, and see what they do. Also, try to practice more offline, so there's no input lag. That will help immensely in your training.

If you ever want to practice, you can add me on PSN.
