Character Weaknesses

I'm trying to compose my own match-up chart based on which characters have what advantages over another, and I'd like to know what each character's general weaknesses are.

For an example of general weaknesses: Scorpion does not deal well with IA Fireballs or good air-ok moving specials, and has no effective way of escaping pressure.

Thank you ^_^

Ermac's full screen Projectile-Projectile spam is mediocre, he can trade most of them but against certain people he'll basically always lose out. There are a few people who have way too much time following his projectile to completely wreck him with a teleport (IE: Raiden or KL). However when it comes to mid-screen projectile wars he wins in a heartbeat due to TKP or TKS and he is capable of faking out a teleport in projectile wars due to the fact his teleport looks like a projectile startup.

His normals tend to lose out against most people and some of the rushdown characters (IE: Lao) will absolutely wreck him if they get in. Once a good player is up in his face, he's gone.

Alright: thank you very much. Just a quick question to make sure my math is correct: would you say Scorpion v. Ermac would be a 5:5 even?

I can't really give a solid matchup ratio for that one, due to my inexperience truthfully. I know I personally have issues with getting in projectile spam mode with Scorps and then either getting teleport punched/x-rayed (since Ermac's recovery is horrendous on that) or getting Kunai'd when I'm not paying attention. That's just solely from my own stupidity however. For the most part I wreck the majority of Scorpions (but that could just be the online sucking).

I'd say 5:5 seems about fair, due to my experiences I might say Ermac brings better tools to the table at times than Scorp, but because I'm not THAT experienced I'd say just roll with 5:5 until someone else corrects it =P

Subby

Sub-Zero doesn't do well with characters that can damage him from far away. Granted a trade off freeze would cause him to get the dmg, but if you have a character with fast projectiles(Like Kano) or someone who just excels at defensive attacks (Like Kung Lao), it makes it difficult for Sub-Zero to get in there. Sub-Zero has to get in to do the damage. Any character that can keep him out is his weakness.

Yep, with Sub his lack of a teleport and zoning techniques work really well on rushdown characters or aggressive players, against people like projectile spamming Kanos or such you really don't have much of a chance to get in.

Alright, then I'd figure SZ v SC and SZ v ER would be about 4:6 in SC/ER favor, since they win in the zoning game (Scorpion at long-range and Ermac at mid-range) and break even in the rushdown game. Does this sound reasonable?

Also, as for SC v ER, I believe it would be 5:5 since at far-range, Scorpion can use Hellfire to zone, which forces Ermac to air-teleport. Same thing at mid-range, except Ermac zones with TKS/TKP and Scorpion uses his air-teleport. And they are both average at close-range.

Alright: is Sub-Zero known for rushdown or turtling?
Sub zero can do both, turtling is....how would you say, a waist of his ability. You cant do any single thing with him or else your "strategy" if you could call it that, can be seen through or just figured out very quickly. Constant attemptive zoning, or hyper aggression that leads to not blocking wakeups. If your wanting to know how sub should be played, ide reccomend watching some videos on Tom Brady. Easily the best.

As for a weakness of sub, the down 1 / down 4's of mileena and kitana are definitely big ones.

Smoke, definitely has problems with hyper aggressive players assuming they dont leave themselves open to tele punch.

From what I could tell from Chris G v Tom Brady at CEO, Sub-Zero is about average in terms of turtling and rushdown until he gets the opponent in the corner, where he enhances and combines both into a frightening lockdown combination. Reptile was doing well as long as he wasn't in the corn, but when he was in it, his options were limited.

The question is . . . how easy is it for Sub-zero to push into a corner?

Bump, for more substance.

Decided to give Liu Kang a go, look at the properties of all his moves, and the only thing that stands out is the lack of an evasive movement option. His reversal options (Bicycle Kick and Parry) are also fairly weak, but at least he has them unlike a lot of other characters.

I do get the feeling that he's outclassed by a lot of other characters, namely Kabal.
