Question Overrated or underrated?

Personally a bit overrated. Like 16bit said I've never really been worried about her either. Id say maybe on the cusp of top 10 to be honest. Not a lot of people used her cuz she took a lot of skill to master and there's better characters than her who are easier to use
So pretty much all, the ones that plays online?

First...I can't believe nobody tagged me!

Second... Being overrated or underrated is a matter of opinion. Her only true really bad match ups might be Kabal and Johnny Cage. Other than that, she could beat any character in the game on any given day. Top five, top 10, who cares now?

She has all the tools, was challenging to play, yet rewarding and SWAG AS FUCK!

This post sums it up.

If people mastered iadaggers, the Sonya and kitana MU would have been very different.

Only reason no one was really worried about her is because they didn't have to deal with her on a consistent basis, not many ppl used her, especially in a tournament setting...it was rare, so curb and death, are u guys saying the character did not have the tools to eventually be able to take a major or atleast consistently place top 8? I don't care if other top characters were easier to use, she could still take them out, as far as bad matchups fly, I would say Cyrax was a pretty tough one for her as well.

cyrax definitely is a rough one for her, my bro has not dropped a set to a scarlet in that matchup haha.

Word...DJT was the bane of my existence when it came to placing in a tournament both times he has rendered me from a top 8 spot, in dallas, and evo.
haha it happens bro, but knowing you lost to the two ppl who were in the grand finals at evo, you definitely can't be mad at that. Also you gave her a top 8 at a major, if only ppl would've kept playing the game..............., things would've got REALLY interesting. This is just my opinion and off topic, but I never thought lao was that great as I never lost to one in tournament haha :p/ most didn't deal with lao correctly.

I find it funny after everything I've manage to accomplish or come close to accomplishing some still see this character as not being a threat, god how I wish this game still had life offline, Lao was considered a top 10 maybe even 5 character, and I beat both PL and CDJR Laos in tournament setting...but hey I guess that doesn't mean anything right.

you know how TYM be lol, the usual discredit game. To be honest, there was so much more we could've got out of mk9 offline, but oh well, mk10 will come out, and when it does, it'll be bangin in the tournament scene. Personally, I still enjoy mk9 and will always play it with ppl, hell ppl still message me for mk9 tips and etc.

Was gonna make a long ass post but i'll just condense it and keep it brief.

Her normals are lacking, they don't control space well. Her best tool for controlling space is F4 which is somewhat slow (not terrible by any means) and leads into a safe blockstring. Only issue is that it has a lot of pushback on both hit and block. So it's not like you can check them up, then go into pressure. At best you're going to be checking them up on block and resetting the neutral game, or if it hits you've done your ~12% and they're at full screen. Compare this to other characters like Cage or any of the other top tiers minus Kitana, who not only space and check you up, but on block can continue pressuring due to the range they're left at.

Her projectiles are crappy for spacing purposes, the first one does 1% so her cancelling daggers literally tickle you. I'd go as far as to say its better to eat the first dagger than to block it, because they deal so little damage and because they build her so much meter on block (8 on block to build a little over a bar iirc). And lord knows you don't want Skarlet to have meter.

Onto her strong points:

Slide is great, it's -3 on block and has the whole empty dash / slide / overhead slash mix up to it. Her pressure, if she has meter and gets you standing is some of the best in the game for sure. She has a great comeback factor with her ridiculous frame advantage and potential mix ups. She has average pokes overall, nothing superb except maybe D3 (small hurtbox) and nothing overly crappy either.

She's number 11-15 imo. About the same tier as people like Kang and Reptile. Definitely not the "kabal killer" she was said to be, let alone within the top 5.

Final round will be tons of fun for MK. I'll be rep ping skarlet hard for that...and NW of course.

I can't help bug view her "weaknesses" u mentioned as some of her strengths. Sorry but I feel many just don't understand her.

@FCP/EMP SCAR
@MITDJT

You both are right. I forgot about cyrax. My local Atlanta players definitely had a fear of her. When I went to MLG, I lost to @Cat twice. Who just so happens to be your training partner and knows the MU about as well as pig did. God I was pissed to have to fight cat when I was the only kabal in Atl and my kabal was shit.

Oh well. I'm down to play anytime on Xbl. I want this game to have more life.

Her f4 was strong but her f4 3 was even stronger at dictating space and was under used, this string alone was a pain to Johnny Cage users. And don't sleep on daggers when it comes to checking an opponent, even tho it didn't do much damage it intimidated ur opponent when right outside the range of their attacks, not to mention great on baiting out moves once air daggers is used following a fake jump in...

Flagg

Noob
Daggers is a lot about how she controls a match.

People look at her wrong when they say "it only does 1%". Her daggers were like long range pokes which you could dash forward or back and get something started or release a second dagger or go into a string, jump, red dash, armour, another dagger and so on.

After you throw a dagger and dash forward you can do quite a few things based on what your opponent does.

Yeah the F43 is the safe blockstring i was referring to. The spacing it gives it great, like I said it resets the neutral game. I personally use it a lot with her, and while it's good its just not quite comparable to the to S-A+ Tiers tools who not only have the range but can potentially continue pressuring afterwards. With Skarlet you're just resetting the situation on block, other characters get something scary when you block their spacing tools. Sonya gets the military stance bullshit, Kabal gets NDC pressure depending on the normal he uses, Cage gets F3 mix ups, Smoke is at 0 which his stupid pokes and normals, Jax gets pressure depending on your hitbox, etc. Her spacing tools are comparable to Kitana's in the sense that they create space, but the big difference is Kitana has stupid good spacing while Skarlet's is just average :\

Daggers are also useful depending on the match up I agree, but it's not that universal kind of tool you need to be considered S or even A+ tier i this game. Compare it to anyone's projectile again in S to A+ Tier range and its just not on par. The air daggers I 100% agree great, they give her great utility and the fact that you can even OTG with them is no joke. Air daggers are one of her better tools for sure. Also to Skarlet's credit her corner damage is some of the best in the game, I forgot to mention that. Also her armor is solid, but I figured that was a given lol.

Overall I feel like she's good, not incredible or anything. I use her quite a bit myself so if anything i'd be bias to put her higher up, but I have her at about the #11 spot.
