1/30 Developer Notes: Spinal, "Jail" system, and fixes.

As many await the release of SPINAL, we have prepared notes for the community to check out some of the updates we have planned to be released with the upcoming update. Please take a read below, leave comments and share your feedback!

***New Content***


NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTER

Spinal character and his accessory sets are now available for ULTRA EDITION and COMBO BREAKER PACK owners.

MELD WELCOMING

Meld will now greet you each time you start up Killer Instinct to highlight any updates or news!

RAGE QUIT SOLUTION IMPLEMENTED

Introducing a novel solution to rage quitters in Ranked Match: JAIL

- The first time your disconnect percentage goes above 15 percent you go to JAIL

- A 10 match minimum is required

- JAIL lasts for 24 hours. During this time you can only be matched against other JAIL members

- Each time you go to JAIL the amount of time increases by 24 hours (capped at 5 days – 120 hrs)

- While in JAIL your profile icon will be automatically changed to a custom JAIL icon to let you know you are in JAIL

- When your JAIL time is up, you go back into the public again (even if your disconnect percentage is back over 15%)

- However, when back in public, if you disconnect and you are still above 15 percentage you go directly back to JAIL

- For any match that sends you to JAIL, player will take a loss


Practice Mode Position Reset Added

Players now have the ability to quickly reset their character positioning by using the commands below while in PRACTICE MODE:

- View + Menu – Reset both characters back to the starting locations in the center of the stage

- View + Menu + Left – Reset both characters on the left side of the stage

- View + Menu + Right – Reset both characters on the right side of the stage

Leaderboards Quick Search

Players will now be able to press “Y” to see the top rank of that specific leaderboard.


***General Fixes***

ULTRA COMBO AUDIO DISTORTION

Fixed an issue where users would hear audio distortion during ULTRA COMBO sequences.

TRAINING MODE GENERAL FIXES

Several issues have been fixed to make sure that the AI will react accurately towards the settings of the player.

***On-line Fixes***

MATCHMAKING FOR RANKED MATCHES

Ranked search will now properly search for the ranks nearest to your rank, then slowly expand its ranked search range over 1 min.

EXHIBITION INVITE FIX

Fixed an issue when you tried to join an invite and it would fail because it was waiting for you to leave your previous session.

PLAYER RANK DISPLAY UPDATE

Fix spelling errors in “Journeyman” and “Baller” Rank Title graphics.

HOSTING BUG FIXED

Fixed hosting an Exhibition Match while player rank was above 20.

RANKING UP/DOWN DISPLAY FIX

Potential Rank Up / Rank Down messages will no longer stay on the screen if the opponent disconnects during the match.

WIN/LOSS PROPERLY DISPLAYS

Fixed post-match screen showing incorrect win/loss in Exhibition Match.

RANK BAR ANIMATION FIX

Ranking bar animation on loss has been fixed, and will now properly display.
***CHARACTER UPDATES***

JAGO

Fixed a bug that allowed players to perform a Shadow Endokuen without using meter.

SABREWULF

Tracking properties of OVERPOWER (Back + Heavy Punch) will no longer auto correct if the opponent jumps over Sabrewulf.

ORCHID

Fix to Shadow Itch – Ni – San getting broken when used as an opener in certain cases.

SADIRA

Fix to web ball causing a blowout reaction during ultra if opponent was already above 100 KV.

Yep. Good stuff all around. That old saying always rings true to my ears, good things come to those who wait. Amazing Spinal trailer with amazing showcasing of an amazing character (I used amazing 3 times LOL), Fulgore!, and now these amazing patch notes (4 times). All great fixes and improvements but most importantly, they have remained true to their word and have not "nerfed" or "buffed" any character. Love it. Let people explore the game and actually learn matchups. These guys are legit.

I want to know what spinal's weakness is lmao. He's got crazy utility, mix ups and mobility so what's the downside? Bad defense?

Also doesn't 15% disconnect seem high for going to jail? Shouldn't it be 10% or 8%? I wonder if this takes effect retroactively for people who have already gained a lot of level by quitting

Hard to tell until I get him in the lab. He is like glacius in the sense that neither have a backdash available to them. I bet he's semi free on wake up too

I think they said on the stream that his frame-data for the most part is pretty bad. And his movement is heavily reliant on those special moves because he's slow

Spinal has a backdash. You can see it in the video Q&A vid. I'll try to link a timestamp for you

I like this Jail system thing! Cool Idea and I hope it turns out well

As for Spinal I think they said he has a forward and back dash or did they replace that with the forward run? it would make sense since he has a run and a teleport. that's tons of mobility for Spinal and he'd be a little TOO crazy IMO

slow short ranged normals, slow walk speed and no dash.

Ugh, the Jail system for rage quitters is a total joke and solves nothing. I'll tell you why.

1. Your quit percentage has to be 15% in order to go to jail. So people can quit once out of every 10 matches and never go to jail (Once every 10 matches is 10%). For casual quitters this means nothing. So some jerk can play a while against bad players and have no problem, but when they play me and I make them hate themselves, they quit, and suffer no punishment. This punishes good players, not the people who pull.

2. The fix says nothing about awarding the win the person who, you know, obeyed the rules and didn't pull. Effff that. Giving the win to the winner is the most important thing.

3. Players who go to jail get a loss when sent to jail. So they can pull 1 out of 10 matches over the life of the game, quitting 1/10th of the time but never get a loss for it? This isn't punishment. How about every quit is a loss for the quitter and a win for the person who didn't quit.

Let me be clear about something: I COULDN'T CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO THE PERSON THAT QUITS! If I get a win then I would be happy if everyone I was crushing just quit, that way I could get on to the next match more quickly and could keep earning the rank points I deserve. This system does nothing. Its a joke. It doesn't help the people that deserve the help in this situation.

I think this is just a start, they need somewhere to start. It may seem high at first but for now lets see how it plays out and see if they tweak the system as we move on.

Sounds great for everything except jail should be more like 5%. If you are dcing more than once every 20 matches, you should pay the price.

Also...a huge deal will be if it retroactively brings in either quits, total games, both or neither. If retroactively brings in total games but not quits, those people with 1000+ games can rage quit 150 times still without being punished.

A rage quit should result in loss and give the win to the other player, always. The jail thing should just be a supplemental system to humiliate the really bad offenders, not the main deterrent.

It should somehow troll you by temporarily changing your Icon as well to say something like: Arrested etc etc.

Originally I thought the whole "Humiliation" thing with the music and all but that might be a bit TOO mean imo
