MK9 Prima Official Game Guide Tier List

I was going through old files on my computer, and stumbled upon this pdf version of Prima's official game guide for Mortal Kombat 9. I thought it might be entertaining to look back on the original tier chart and laugh about how much the game has evolved...

Couple of funny things I noticed....

• Shang Tsung is ranked the best, with Raiden close behind.
• Cyrax is in the bottom 6.
• Sindel is better than Sonya.

(Prima "guides" are pretty sub standard. I've never seen a good one. The last Prima guide I paid for was for the Legend of Dragoon, and it sucked. I only used it for the stardust locations, but that's another story.)

-Can someone please find that screen shot of Doomsday's venom description and how it's safe on block, but how you can be punished if your opponent blocks it in the same sentence?

Brady Games guides are better for information, but I find that one thing that was good about the Prima guides is that they are pretty sturdy. Every Brady Games guide I ever bought, the pages would start to fall out after a month. I've never had that issue with Prima guides.

I have this guide on my bookshelf. I read it cover to cover when mk9 first came out. Obviously the matchup chart ended up being far from accurate (but lbsh how could it be accurate when they were using such an early build of the game and so many changes and patches followed). It's kinda cool to look back at what they thought some of the matchups were though.

they also nerfed smoke and cyrax.

two good thing i've learned with this book that i didn't figured out when i researched, was the possibility of dash cancel kitty ex fan, and scorps double port meterless combos. lol

playing the coolest character in the game and being the best with him will never be considered a waste of time imo.
