Nightwing In Retirement
This week's WNF featured some of the most diverse play SoCal has had, and even though Bruce Wayne took home first, another character won the hearts of the people.
Interesting Notes For This Week:
After spending hours complaining about how awful Shazam is, Wonder Chief did the impossible and took out some of SoCal's finest to make grand finals using only one character. On his way to grand finals his Shazam took out Tyrant's Grundy, Sonicboom Brad's Hawkgirl, Emperor Theo's Aquaman, Slayer's Superman, and more. His Shazam performance wasn't enough to take home first, but was still incredibly impressive. Almost every match he played was streamed, so if you are a fan of Shazam then this archive is definitely worth checking out.
Early Upsets:
After being missing from WNF for a few weeks, Sonicboom Brad made his return to WNF with his Doomsday and pocket Hawkgirl looking promising. Brad's Doomsday looked impressive, knocking Krayzie to losers early. On the other side of the bracket Hitbox's Tyrant was sent to losers in the first round by Wonder Chef's Shazam, and a second round loss to Slayer from Emperor Theo meant that the losers bracket was stacked full of strong players very early.
Theo may have been sent to losers early, but he carved an impressive path through losers bracket, before finally losing to Chef's Shazam on the route to top 3. Theo was forced to fight incredibly tough matchups for Aquaman, like Shazam, Batman, and Scorpion. Fortunately, Theo's ability to clutch out 7-3 matchups in his favor helped him end the night with a respectable 4th place finish.
Tyrant's path through losers was cut short early, as he lost to Immortal Angel's Scorpion. After getting hit by the 10th wakeup in a row he was cited after the match saying, "Every time man, it's weird huh?"
Deserved Props:
Despite the hype play from Chef's Shazam, one of the most impressive parts of last WNF was Nubcake's incredibly solid play. He carved his way though the winners bracket and defeated all of SoCal's best in impressive fashion. Every week of WNF has everyone wondering, besides Theo's Aquaman, who can stop Nubcake's impressive Batman?
After defeated Theo's Aquaman in a close 2-1 set, and sending Brad's Hawkgirl to losers, Slayer suffered a loss to Nubcakes in winners finals. Unfortunately for Slayer, he had to fight out a tough matchup in losers finals, Chef's Shazam. With the entire crowd cheering for Chef, Slayer suffered a tough loss to Shazam, and dejectedly accepted 3rd place for the night.
Sadly, the dream was ended short for Shazam in grand finals, but Nubcakes' impressive play deserves as much props as Chef's. Each week WNF gets more and more exciting and diverse, and leaves everyone wondering what will happen next week.
