Nightwing In Retirement
This week's WNF featured some fantastic matches, as well as some unexpected character variety. As this is the last WNF before Christmas, consider these matches our holiday gift to you!
Interesting Notes For This Week:
The most impressive showing this week at WNF was undoubtedly Filipinoman and his Wonder Woman play. After sending MF Slayer to losers first round, Filipinoman did an incredible job all night. Unfortunately for him, he was just short of reaching his first top 3, but ended with a strong 4th place finish. With more time playing and match up experience on his side, he will be a definite force to be reckoned with.
Pray he doesn't end up in your pool at SCR, or you may find out how tough Amazon's are.
Interesting Character Choices:
This week's WNF featured unexpected faces in and outside of the game. Guamo, the self proclaimed gimmick king, came to WNF and had some close games with his Nightwing, Zatanna, and Raven. As usual, Chef wasn't satisfied playing the character he does well with, and picked Lex, and Raven beside his Black Adam. In true Chef fashion he tried to counterpick Martian with Lex, and quickly realized he didn't know the matchup.
Another surprising choice was both Martian's that ran rampant at WNF. Krayzie finished with a strong 3rd using Martian, and after losing to Theo in winners Steve made an impressive run through losers with only the Martian, getting 5th. Is SoCal soon to become the home of both Superman and men from Mars?
It seems unlikely, as Krayzie is probably one week away from going back to Catwoman.
Top 3:
Top 3 was featured on Levelup instead of Chef's stream, and started with losers finals between Krayzie and Nubcakes. The matches were competitive, but the biggest factor in Nubcake's win was his ability to consistently punish Martian's scoop. This lead to Krayzie having trouble consistently pressuring safely, and showed great awareness on Nubcake's part for punishing consistently.
Grand finals was a battle between Nubcake's Batman, and Emperor Theo's Aquaman. This close set was decided by Theo's impressive patience. Nubcake's relentless offense wasn't enough to open Theo up consistently, and Theo showed he was willing to block or walk backwards for a majority of the match. Often times winning is about hitting less buttons, and this set shows a great example of it. With this victory Theo takes another WNF for himself, but the real question on everybody's mind is when the zombie is going to walk back through the door, and keep the dream alive.
