Dealing with Scorpion. HELP!

Snolla

I main Subby and I have a very hard time dealing with Scorpion players online. He is my worst matchup by far and the thing that gets me with him is not so much his teleport but his mixups. For some reason I can't deal with his mixup game and it may have something to do with the threat of the low leg trip special he can add onto the end of his combos.

Also how does one get away from hellfire? Can't block it, can't ice-dash away from it, when I jump they often get me when I land.. it seems like the only feasible way to escape it is to jump a fraction of a second after your opponent has activated the move which is very difficult with a move that has such a fast startup.

I also get caught with the spear when I jump quite often, however if I never jump I will get hellfired all day so I get baited too easily. I have been considering switching my main over to Ermac (or a least have him be a second to Subby) so I can use him when matched up against a scorpion player. What would you guys recommend to deal with his mixups, hellfire, and as a good matchup against him?

Scorpion really is my achilles heel. I can deal with any other matchup so far. Thanks everyone for the help :headbang:

Well, I'm fairly conditioned against scorpion.. you just sort of have to play a mind game with him. Bait a hellfire by standing unblocked, and jump in to gain some distance on him. It's sort of hard to explain, but I've learned like how to read scorpions mind, as far as when a spear or hellfire is coming out. Sounds retarded, just play some more matches against him to get used to how he plays.

As for the low mixups, IMO it's one of the best in the game. It's just about learning how to read & block correctly(which I can't do either.) because his F+4 comes out fast and his F+3 is an overhead and comes out fast as well -.-

Thankyou, I will keep the bait in mind when I play against him. Maybe I can bait a hellfire, jump, get a quick slide into a combo kinda thing going on. I've also decided to main Scorpion for a while in order to familiarize myself with his move set and mixups.

That's a good idea. Once you figure out how to use him effectively, you'll see where he can be punished and etc etc. sorry I couldn't be more descriptive with the tactic I use, sort of hard to explain.

Sinestro's might!
Try to trap him in the corner. There its real fun. Just make sure your clone is close to you incase he lets off a sneaky teleport wake up. Then just jump over and go back to corner trapping!

eat the hellfire if you can't read them, better than eating an aa spear leading into mixup vortex. close distance then pressure. if you have a clone out and he teleports, just duck. he'll catch it. otherwise just block standard teleport and d1 the enhanced teleport. once he's down, clone and use down pokes to shut down both takedown and teleport on wakeup.

as far as dealing with mixups, I assume you mean on the jip? either way, obviously block the jip standing but then you can fuzzy guard low for a bit in case he does the f4. his overheads are slower so if you just fuzzy guard low for a few frames you should block the f4 but not eat an overhead. overheads are punishable on block so full combo those, or if you read the f4 stay low blocking and punish either of his options, spear or takedown.

Good advice. Thankyou very much. Also to Lyuben... I love the corner rape with subby :)

This is off topic but where do I go to put my gamertag under my avatar? Didn't want to make a thread for this question

I recently had trouble with Scorpions as well. I always try to bait the hellfire, then jump in on him when hes doing it and punish. Thats really all you need to do. Punish. Most Scorpions online are scrubs that dont really know how to play effectively. They just do any special. When they do, block and punish them each time. Most of the time, on wakeup, they would do teleport or spear. Easy punishable moves.
