ONLINE MATCH INVITATIONS:
User States: Once invitations are sent to friends, friends are not able join even though they have accepted the invite.
Possible Resolve: (Compliments to @Weezleram)
1) Invite the person you want to play to a party
2) Once they join, set up a match in Exhibition by picking Host/Invite
3) That will send them an invite notification which they can accept, which will bring them into your match.

Note: It may be helpful to check that your NAT is open.
Steps to open your NAT: On the XB1 dashboard, click the menu button, go to settings, select network settings. I think the first page shows your NAT (Strict or Open). You want it to say Open for best results when playing multiplayer. You may want to forward the ports used by the Xbox and/or put the IP of your XB1 in your router DMZ.

Last night I played with vito devito and had no issues getting the match started. I accidentally exited and we easily continued playing. It was very simple for my first time playing with a friend

So yea a few people do not have issues but google it and it's a really large problem

I had no problems last night connecting to people. The game was recently patched so it may have fixed the problem.

I still haven't even found out how to look at a recent players list.

I can't find it either. I only have a couple friends on Xbox one now. I would like to invite some of the better players I played as friends, but I can't find the list. I looked for 30 minutes this morning.

Yeah I really don't like some of the decisions they made in terms of design. It just seems so much more complicated to do the simple things.
