Question to those with a PS4.....?

Hi guys,

Now that the PS4 records the last 15 mins of gameplay automatically, I was wondering if it was possible to transfer that recorded material to say a USB drive after it has been recorded? Or has sony locked it to the console?

At this point, there is no way that I know of to get the video off of the console. I know a lot of people are requesting a way to do it, but nothing as of yet. Firmware 1.51 drops tonight, but it's only to fix software stability issues--maybe the next one will have something.

That's funny - just tonight, I was discussing the PS4 with somebody and I had wondered if the console could record footage in addition to streaming (sorry, I clearly did not do all my homework).

If it can't be transferred to a laptop for editing purposes, then it's going to necessitate a capture device again. :(

Nope, can't transfer it to a USB or any external device. Has to be shared online, then you can just grab it from there. I simply use my standard recording device, easier for me.
Interesting, how are you recording it? I heard sony has blocked recording from the hdmi for at least another year? Are you using a converter, that converts the hdmi to either component or dvi?

I have the Avermedia Live Gamer Portable in conjunction with a VERY specific HDMI Splitter that strips HDCP, allowing me to record both PS3 and PS4 gameplay over HDMI. Sony will be releasing an update soon that will get rid of HDCP during gameplay, which means I wont need to use the splitter anymore.

does the ps4 even have a usb slot?

no it doesn't/ that sucks. maybe the next model will
Not sure if troll or not. The PS4 has 2 USB3.0 ports.

I use to do something very similar, but with images just to get them off my phone, cause I didn't have a USB cable to do it the conventional way. Sounds legit!!!

I don't have PS4 but would imagine that it uploads from PS4 to YouTube and then you can edit or download it from YouTube to your computer????

It's easily the best recording device I have ever used, bar none. I highly highly recommend it. As for the HDMI Splitter, here is the exact one I purchased. Also, since you live in Australia like me, you'll need to head to your local electronics store and purchase the proper power supply for the HDMI Splitter. I got mine from Jaycar for like $15.

This is really nice! How do you setup AverMedia and the HDMI splitter? In terms of "this" goes "here" :p

Does this equipment work like the one you've shown? I prefer from amazon since I'm on Europe.

I think it just uploads to facebook in a compressed format. I don't think the share and upload clips function is going to be good for hi-res video. We will probably end up needing capture devices. Is it officially confirmed that Sony is going to get rid of HDCP on their HDMI port??? If that is the case then I should be able to still use my Elgato in the future.
