Top 10 games to commemorate the outgoing console generation

So today is the last day of the current game console generation. With the release of the PS4 tomorrow, the next generation will officially be ushered in. With that in mind, I felt it appropriate to reflect on this generation and what it brought to the world of gaming. And what better way to do so than to give honorable mention to your favorite Top 10 games in this generation, plus your most memorable gaming experiences. Here are mine, in order:

1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - for me, this was the best game of this whole generation. It did everything flawlessly - excellent storytelling, unforgettable characters, amazing and emotionally poignant scenes (Act 4, anyone?! I am not ashamed to admit I choked up during the opening when Snake re-enters Shadow Moses island. It brought so many good memories. And how about that fight between Metal Gear Rex and Ray! Incredible!), varied and fun gameplay, great soundtrack, and flawless graphics. The only issue were the extra long cut-scenes, but that really was more of a minor nuisance than anything else.

2. Mortal Kombat (2011) - what can I say, it's Mortal Kombat. And this iteration of it was one of the best. I'd rate it Top 5 MK game for sure. And it was the first MK game to really break into the competitive scene.

3. Injustice: Gods Among Us - an excellent fighting game from the creators of Mortal Kombat.

4. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - the best jRPG on the PS3, and one of the best in the whole generation. Lots and lots of old school goodness with next gen graphics and excellent voice acting. That game truly never stops to surprise. I put in a good 180 hours (approximately) into it and had an awesome time doing it.

5. Soul Calibur IV - that was another awesome fighting game that I loved playing. I have to say the Soul Calibur series has the best character creation and customization mode I've seen in a fighting game. You better believe I brought it online with my custom made Raiden. Lol

6. Final Fantasy XIII-2 - a lot of people didn't like this game, but I thought it was really good. I had lots of fun with it.

7. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 - crazy, hectic, non-stop, heart-pounding ninja action at its finest. Loved this game, and the online mode was very well done and fun to play, albeit quite laggy.

8. Tekken 6 - another great fighting game by Namco.

9. Tales of Xilia - a pretty good jRPG. The best part is the battle system, characters are really good too, plus I love those random skits throughout the game. The storyline is not the best and the environments are kind of repetitive and uninspired, but overall a really good RPG.

10. Grand Theft Auto IV - a really good open-world game with tons of things to do.

My most memorable moment was...buying my PS3. I waited in line for 6 hours in Wal-Mart with a buddy of mine for the midnight release of the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle. It was great fun, and the first midnight release I had been to. The second most memorable moment for me was the release of Mortal Kombat (2011). I didn't really know what to expect of this game, but it turned out excellent.

What about you?

Blue Blurs for Life!
It's still difficult for me to digest that we have reached the next generation of the Playstation legacy. The moment I picked up my PS3, I had no idea about what would lie in store for me as far as actual adventures go, especially when living the life of a fighting game player. I'm grateful for having made the decision to grab a PS3.

I already chose to wait a bit after the launch date before nabbing a PS4 for myself, but I must admit, I'm finding it incredibly hard to exercise restraint. I guess my efforts to grab an Xbox360 will have to wait, if not be put on an indefinite hold.

Anyway...my top ten games in no particular order.

1. Mortal Kombat 9 (2011)
2. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
3. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
4. Batman: Arkham City
5. Heavy Rain
6. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
7. Sonic the Hedgehog 2006
8. Sonic Generations
9. Tekken Tag Tournament 2
10. Injustice: Gods Among Us

Anything that Naughty Dog made, MGS4, MK9, Injustice, Arkham City, Dead Space 1 and 2, I haven't actually played it yet but I have to assume GTA V has to be on the list, and the FIFA series in general for best sports game over this gen.

Jaku2011

Filled with determination
1. Mass Effect trilogy- yes even 3 the ending was made acceptable with the extended cut plus DLC and it had one of the most addictive multiplayers a I've ever played.

2.Dead Rising series- not only did it have fun gameplay and a cool sandbox it had a surprisingly great story and some of the most memorable bosses of any game I've played.

3.Arkham Asylum- the game that finally did Batman justice I feel it's better than City just because it feels more detailed and isn't nearly as overwhelming as City was.

4.Marvel Ultimate Alliance- holy shit my addiction for an entire summer. Loved finding new dialogue unlocking characters and destroying the game with my maxed level Colossus.

5.Walking Dead- wow did this game come out of nowhere and give me all of the feels.

6.Silent Hill Shattered Memories- honestly this is mostly due to the ending the rest of the game was cool too but man what a great emotional end

7. Dead Space 1- 2 and 3 were forgettable though the coop was fun. The first game had a great story some shit your pants scary moments and did a good job for making you feel for the silent protagonist which the other two really didn't even if they gave him a voice.

8. Elder Scrolls Oblivion- this was the game that originally blew my mind and showed me What next gen was I spent a lot of time with this game and the Dlcs (lol horse armor) and I still never finished everything.

9. Dragon Age Origins- I love Bioware's style of game and this is one of their best.

10. all of the fighting games- I can't pick one I've played too many from Doa to SF to Marvel to Mk vs Dc to Injustice I've played so many great fighters this gen and I can't wait for more next gen.

DO YOU ENJOY FIGHTING GAMES?

I used to enjoy non-fighting games as a kid, but idk. I get bored of non-fighting games really easy now. Basically any 1 player game or shooting game or anything that isn't a fighting game, I can play it for a little bit but I get bored after like a half hour lol. Especially all single player games now are only fun the first playthough; once you beat it once you won't feel like playing it ever again and it will sit on your shelf for months

Fighting games have ulimited replay value

Well yeah, but replay value isn't always a good thing. Sometimes I go into a game knowing that once I finish it I won't want to replay it. That is not a bad thing. Maybe one day I will go back and play it again for nostalgia, much like a good book that you have already read. There is still value in that.

In no order.

1. God of War 3
2. Street Fighter IV
3. Grand Theft Auto IV
4. Red Dead Redemption
5. Max Payne 3
6. Spider Man Web Of Shadows
7. Mortal Kombat (2011)
8. Injustice Gods Among Us
9. Batman Arhkam City
10. Need For Speed Undercover
11. Grand Theft Auto V

10. Red Dead Redemption - I haven't really played GTA5 yet so this wins greatest Open World game for me for now. It was and still is amazing.

9. WET - Great lead character, great soundtrack and overall just a good fun game. It was pretty much a homage to grind house movies and it did it's job very damn good.

8. Mark of the Ninja - For a $15 digital game, this felt like a big budget title. It was great, had amazing replay value and the animations were amazing to me.

7. Dante's Inferno - I really do not care if it is seen as a clone, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than God of War. The main reason why is because I enjoyed the medieval setting aswell as the visualization of Hell.

6. Fez - The music and the concept. That's all. Amazing game.

5. Enslaved : Odyssey to the West - In my opinion, this was as good a storyline as we had in this generation. The character development was amazing and the set pieces were beautiful. I could stare at this game for hours and marvel at how lovely it looked.

4. Doritos Crash Course 2 - A free game that was actually good? I love this damn game mainly because this sequel added so much to an already addictive formula that the first game gave us.

3. Midnight Club LA - Was and still is the best arcade racer this generation. It may not have the largest car collection compared to Forza, but goddamn is this game fun.

2. Donkey Kong Country Returns - I love platformers and this game was just utterly amazing. So much fun and had a hell of a lot of replay value.

1. Super Mario Galaxy - I love Mario games and I skipped out on Sunshine. It had been a while since I had picked up a full fledge Mario game and when I played this, I was reminded why I love videogames. The game is pure genius and it literally had me hooked for hours.

Honorable mentions go out to :

Castlevania Lords of Shadow. It's about time a good action 3D Castlevania game was made. I hate the MetroidVania games and this gave me hope of finally playing something like the old school SNES Castlevania 4 action platformer. This may possibly be, imo, the best looking game this gen.

Ninja Gaiden 2. I love action games and this was the pinnacle of it generation. Goddamn that Master Ninja Mode was not fair.

Mortal Kombat 9. Finally returns to good old 2D kombat and as wonky as the game is, it was still fun even to this day.

Call of Duty Black Ops. Pretty much the best CoD multiplayer game this generation.

All three Batman Arkham games. Easily some of the greatest comic book inspired games ever made.

The Gears of War series. Mainly because I love the way the game captured the feeling of a post apocalyptic Earth. Loved all the set pieces along with the fast paced action.

Portal. I didn't play part 2 but I'm glad I played part 1. Such charm and great ideas.

Prototype. I loved the mix of comic book action and open world the game offered. horrible storyline but goddamn it was fun.

Pac Man DX Championship Edition. It was very repetative but it was a great time waster during parties.

New Super Mario Brothers. Loved the amount of times me and my friends/family wasted on this game. Such a great time.

Epic videogame commercials. I don't know about you guys, but this gen had some really great commercials that were very well directed and executed. Halo Reach's commercial is easily the best one.

You don't understand!! I unlocked an achievement in Burnout Paradise in 4 different years! On purpose! The support Criterion showed for that game was beyond ridiculous. If a true Burnout Paradise 2 ever arises...ggs every other game out for me.

Blake, I won't be getting PS4 for a while either. At most until MGSV comes out. None of the launch titles appeal to me and I have way too many PS3 games on my backlog still. I also want to get a Wii so I can play Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story.

Haha, that's perfectly fine. I know there are way too many good games this generation. I'd also like to add Metal Gear Online. That game was way too much fun, I spent so much time on it and the only mode I ever playing was Sneaking because you could play as Solid Snake, one of my favorite characters of all time.

If we count PSP games, I would also add Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker to the list. They were all excellent games as well.

Gesture Required Ahead

Get on that hook
1.Halo 3 - In its prime, was the best game ever
2.Mortal Kombat (2011) - I loved it enough to spend a lot of time and money on it. Still love it to this day

After these 2, it's hard to tell

3.Injustice: Gods Among Us - Great solid game, keeps me reeled in with new things being discovered
4.Fallout: New Vegas - Probably the best open-world game I've played. Would replay it a hundred times and still find new stuff
5.Soul Calibur V - Amazing fighting game that I find fun to play no matter what
6.Left 4 Dead 2 - Will never forget the times I've had with this game. Nostalgia-filled all the way
7.Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - The best Assassin's Creed made IMO. Not much innovation but it was well executed
8.Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - The last good Call of Duty
9.Grand Theft Auto V - One of the best open-world games I've played. Supported by a great multiplayer
10.Bioshock - Great story, great chaacters, great atmosphere, great gameplay
