Nightwing In Retirement
This week, Southern California was happy to have FNATIC's own Perfect Legend down for WNF! PL's inclusion in the bracket, along with our own stream for Injustice pools, made this an excellent WNF for both the players and spectators to enjoy.
Interesting Notes For This Week:
This week's WNF started off with a loss that almost nobody saw coming. In his second match of the day, Perfect Legend was defeated 2-1 by Sonicboom Brad's Doomsday. This loss only seemed to fuel PL, as he plowed his way through the losers bracket into top 3, even defeating the multi time WNF champion Emperor Theo, as well as RDK Godspeed and FR Legend.
Theo's defeat by PL was set up with a loss in winners to MF Slayer, an opponent he is very familiar with. Despite beating Slayer in every match they've met in recent memory, Theo was taken down by the young Superman player, where he waited for a hungry PL to end his tournament life.
A New Challenger Has Appeared:
This week's most impressive player had to be Nubcakes and his great Batman play. Nubcakes was relatively unknown outside SoCal before yesterday, but is definitely a fantastic player, He has defeated all of SoCal's best, including RDK's Tyrant, Godspeed, EGP Wonder Chef, Sonicboom Brad, Emperor Theo, Steve, Slayer, and anybody else unfortunate enough to run into him in the bracket. Don't let the lack of a spotlight fool you, Nubcakes is a great example of some of SoCal's best that don't get a lot of time to show off how great they are to the rest of the Injustice community.
Top 3:
Before top 3, MF Slayer looked shaky, pale, and mentioned feeling sick. Luckily for him, Super Arcade had plenty of trash cans nearby, because he needed them. His shaky play was definitely noticed as Nubcakes took a commanding lead and looked strong in their winners finals match in top 3. Slayer did his best to battle back, but his drops, lack of conversions, and overall shaky play lead to a quick loss to Nubcake's Batman.
This setup a match between FNATIC's Perfect Legend's Batman, and MF Slayer's Superman to see who would fight Nubcakes in grand finals. Perfect Legend's spacing and great reads helped him take a fast first game win over Slayer, who's shaky play seemed to get the best of him. A stage select seemed to help Slayer, as he hit his infamous tree reset, but Perfect Legend wasn't phased, and did a great job finishing out the match with a 2-0 win to put himself in grand finals.
Grand finals started with a Batman mirror between Perfect Legend, in the normal Batman skin, and Nubcakes, playing as Thomas Wayne. Perfect Legend's momentum seemed unstoppable once he hit grand finals, and he ran over Nubcakes with great bat management and use of meter to keep advantage as well as pushblock when he felt necessary. Perfect Legend looked the likely WNF champion as he beat Nubcakes 2-0 to reset the bracket.
After a stage switch, Nubcakes seemed to fall back into rhythm, as a couple of fast transitions by both player ended with Nucakes gaining a large life lead. PL didn't give up, however, and come very close to making a comeback with some fantastic play. This loss led to PL bringing out his Scorpion, but Nubcakes seemed extremely familiar with the character as he almost took the first life bar uncontested. PL bounced back, however, with a great use of teleport to get out of Batman's bats and made the match extremely close. The closeness of this set was only intensified by all the drops both players had near the end of the match. Despite the craziness, Nubcakes pulled out a win and took his very first WNF.
