First Impressions for the New Xbox One and Playstation 4 Controllers

The age of the new-generation consoles is upon us, and obviously you'll want to be informed on the equipment as much as possible. Fortunately for you, this post contains two videos that both provide an analysis on first impressions for the controllers made for Xbox One and Playstation 4, with Maximillian discussing the Xbox One controller while Jaxel from 8wayrun talks about the PS4 pad. Microsoft brought the Xbox One here to Atlanta and many of the AK guys including myself went down and played a ton of KI. All the systems were on pad. The xbox one pad is better than the 360 pad but that's not saying a whole lot. Many times Clint the Beast and I, along with other players from ATL, were having problems doing SRK motions on it. The pad does indeed click like in Max's video however the pad is not elevated very high. I don't understand why Microsoft is having such a hard time creating a good Dpad.

I like the DS4 dpad. The controller all around feels a lot better than the DS3. My problem with the Xbox One controller is that even though the dpad has improved, playing fighting games with your hands in that diagonal position gets very uncomfortable after awhile.

I had zero issues with the Xbox One Dpad and Mustard and I played tons of KI.

I think it's all preference as usual. I personally think it's way better than any other pad I've used. I never liked Playstation pads.

The ps4 controller is the most godlike controller ever created. I haven't messed with the Xbox One controller but I think it looks pretty nice as well. I honestly am super super happy though with the DS4

I played Killer Instinct on pad and Maximillian's impressions were spot on. It's an excellent controller made for pretty much any type of game. For fighting games, I don't think it should be a problem at all to play on D-pad, although I've always preferred playing on the thumbsticks. It might be the best controller I've ever used.

I refuse to play on anything but a DualShock. The Xbox controllers just weren't made for fighting games.

I played Killer Instinct at the Microsoft store here in Overland Park, Kansas today and I love the Xbox One controller the d-pad is amazing in my opinion, and i think they got it down perfectly. Elevated or not, it works as it should and elevation isn't near as much of a problem as it is to get used to it, which took me about 2 matches. P.S. : Sadira is a forced to be reckoned with.

THIS is the greatest pad in fighting game history and literally the last pad I ever played fighters on before switching to strictly stick. As a kid, having this pad and Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition was all I needed. It was also FANFUCKINGTASTIC for the MK games on Sega.

xbox controller was horrible to play on, the ds3 was by far the best fg controller to use sinmply because your thumb wasn't at a weird angle. fingers crossed the ds4 keeps up.

So how are TO's going to decide which system is the standard? Console stats wont be enough to push the issue for a few years and if both controllers are good enough, what will it come down to?

Why do I get the feeling that XBONE will be the standard due to the fact that KI is the first new fighting game on the next gen systems...

I cant see why. I don't get the hype for Killer Instinct. DLC game with a first season of 8 characters, 6 of which are initially available, 2 later. Doesn't seem worth the price of admission and I was a massive Killer Instinct fan back in the day.
