Injustice Character BnB/Combo Thread Cleanup

Hey everyone. So the time has arrived; we're now 8-9 months into the game's lifespan, and the game has evolved both in terms of tech/playstyles, and actual game mechanics changes from patches. So that means:

It's time to get the gloves out and deal with these ol' BnB threads. The first wave of IGAU settlers bravely ventured out and put the best of their knowledge together; and now, it's time to sharpen things up in order to keep them fresh and relevant.

So 2 questions:

1) Which character BnB threads are in desperate need of some tender love and care?
(Crimson Panther suggests Nightwing, Zod, Harley and Cyborg for a start).

2) Would you prefer to edit those existing threads? Or just unsticky them, make new ones, and start fresh?

If you're interested and helping, post and let everyone know. I think this will be an eventual breath of fresh air, and it'll help give new lurkers a much more solid place to start.

Totally my opinion, if, as you said, you are also trying to get newbies to contribute, making new threads (2.0's I guess) would be a better way to go. Seeing a new thread looks a little more inviting to pop into as opposed to one a couple hundred posts long. This goes for asking questions and stuff too, not just xXxCoDrOcKsYoUrMoMxXx coming in to say he found a new Superman combo, F23, F23, Super Breath.

We have a thread, but it is neglected. As is my Cyborg guide with a bunch of BnBs lol

We should come up with a general set of rules or guidelines about what makes a good combo thread. Like what makes a combo a bnb, a general idea of what/how many should be listed, maybe some stuff about notation, whether damage on combos should be with or without j2, etc. Just for some uniformity and ease of use. Being up to date isn't the only thing to consider.

Some threads are less bnb's and more lists of every practical combo. Both have their uses, but maybe we should have some discussion about which should used or how it should be addressed. I know the way I use the Ares combo thread(my main) compared to how I use the Catwoman combo thread(character I'm learning for shits and giggles) are pretty different. If I'm learning a new character and I just see a list of 200 combos that's not of a ton of use to me.

We should also think a bit about new players. A lot of the time a combo thread is the first place a new player will look, someone who doesn't necessarily know about fighting game fundamentals and notation and that kind of thing so we want to be accommodating to them.
With that in mind it's important for the op to explain notation, to consider stuff like listing bnb's that are low execution as well as ones that are higher exection, to focus on bnb's off of practical combo starters(for example the Ares thread lists combos off of his 33 string. I don't know of any Ares player that uses that string, and while there may some merit to knowing that combos off of it exist, we're not helping anybody by encouraging them to use that string), and including some mention or discussion of set ups and combo enders.

As far as flagging character combo threads that need to be looked, I'm going to throw Wonder Woman out there. I play a basic pocket Wonder Woman who hasn't spent a ton of time in the lab and don't know much about the character or consider myself much good at find combos, but some of the bnb's I do are easier and more damaging than the ones listed in the thread(I don't know if they're known or not, but they're not in the op and I'm not going to dig through 10 pages of the thread to check). On top of that there's stuff that's character specific or just never used and not optimal.


Also, I vote for starting fresh. At least for threads that are still around from day 1. Lots of those threads have pages and pages of discussion about combos that aren't worth using any more, and that kind of thing. It makes it difficult for people looking for useful information. Also make sure there's a mod capable of editing thread if the op isn't around to keep it updated. I'm not sure there's any reason to have a combo thread with an inactive op right now

I'll be updating mine as well. Last thing I want is for people to think that I believe I know everything about thread making or something just because I brought it up. Mine needs it too.

I want to make sure that this discussion stays live and doesn't die out before everything's cleaned up.

Anyone want to tackle the Joker's BnB's? Cat? :)

Isn't Cat still banned?

I don't know if he still even plays this game, let alone still plays Joker.

There is really only a handful of regular posters in the Joker forum, but they are pretty dedicated.
If none of them really want to do it, I could just go through the thread myself and piece together a more up to date and coherent one.

Ok -- if you want to tag the guys you think would be up for it, then we can see who's willing tackle it.
