A question of character selection...

So the more I play and try to find my comfort with Reptile online the more it seems that people get pissed off that I keep picking him. This will go on to the point where the shit talking forces me to mute and getting more than 1 or 2 rematches is becoming a bitch and a half. Is this a regular problem when trying dedicate yourself to learning a character?

I mostly ask because IMO it shouldn't make 2 shits of difference who picks who <be it any of the dreaded K's, etc> because it's about learning match ups and getting better, however, this is making it harder and harder to get multiple games going. Any thoughts?

Welcome to TYM, TheBard.
It's not really a regular problem unless you play characters that can be scrub-stompin' annoying when used correctly online, like Reptile, Raiden, Noob Saibot, Kano, and such...

What other foolish humans say should be of no importance, but if it is seriously hindering your enjoyment, perhaps a different character should be learned?

I know exactly how you feel, TheBard.

In most fighting games, I usually stick to one character and one character alone with little desire to learn another one. It's seriously ridiculous the type of complaints you will hear come out of these people's mouths/fingers.

Then you've got the people who refuse to play more than a few games in a row with you using the same character because they feel they're cheap, brain dead, and that you need to learn other characters.

Those kind of people really annoy the hell out of me.

Thanks very much for the welcome and responses! ^-^ Luckily it is not too much of a hindrance to my enjoyment of the game. I'm still picking it up, for the most part, so at the end of the day I just want to get some games in. One'n'dones can always get the job done, albeit not as quickly<or at least that's how it can feel> I imagine that once I am able to do those sexy Reptile bnbs online that I'll start investing in another character a bit more heavily.
Also, I don't imagine playing on Vita and Steam help my case too much, lol

No problem!
That's good.
Excellent idea.
There are a few Vita and PC MK9 players here. I am one of those players on the PSV (if only I didn't take breaks for days to a couple of weeks at a time in between sessions). You can find the sub-forums here: http://testyourmight.com/forums/online-kombat-discussion.103/

Mortal Kombat is NOT dead.
Welcome to TYM TheBard

Well, some people don't like fighting reptile online because his dash is very hard to punish but that's kinda funny because almost everything is hard to punish online. anyway, just play people who actual take the game seriously because online randoms and most casual plays are always going to bitch about something. If they win, they're amazing, they'll tea bag, be disrespectful, and rub it in your face. if you win, your a spam, loser, should get a life, ect.... you'll never win lol.

I'm glad to see people still playing MK <3
