First time playing a fighting game - love it

BlastX21

Mortal
Injustice is the first fighting game I've played that I've been able to invest a significant amount of time in. When I first started out, I didn't know anything about combos, mixups, crossups, and the like. I started out playing mostly the story mode and the cpu, and thought I was good because I could beat the CPU on medium difficulty (lol).

Over time I started watching Youtube videos of the game and saw players like ChrisG, Reo, and Tom Brady doing all these ridiculous things that I'd never even imagined could be done with the game. Even moreso was what the commentators from Team Spooky were saying during the matches - all this fighting game terminology that I knew nothing about.

Long story short, I've become fascinated with the immense amount of strategy involved in fighting games (Injustice in particular) that I never knew existed, and ended up learning all the common terminology and strategies for most of the characters, in large part due to finding this site. Now I mostly play people online, looking to improve my game.

Iowa's Finest.
Welcome!

I started at MK9 and I know exactly how you feel. It's truly a wonderful world if you love to compete and think while you do it. COD can blow me.

I hope you have a local scene to enjoy as well.

Greetings, BlastX21. (I'm kind of late on this....)
Welcome ot this site of knowledge, learning, darkly terrors, along with the never-ending battle between order and chaos, named TestYourMight.com!

Wow I'm impressed you started on Injustice first! Injustice in my opinion is more dynamic than Mortal Kombat 9 (I still love Mortal Kombat tho). However Mortal Kombat 9 was my beginning of playing competitive in these types of fighting games. It took me away from those shooters like Cod and Gears of War. Hope one day you will be stringing and chaining combos like no tomorrow.

And lol Injustice CPU is insane. Don't feel bad, I still get pressured hard on by the highest difficulty! Just practice and hope one day you will face me!

Thanks, and thanks to everyone else for the welcome.

I can do combos no problem - even the most advanced ones. My biggest issue right now is input errors. I use a 360 controller so that contributes to some of this, but every now and then I just straight up mess up the directional controls on a special. Usually its because I just get too eager when I see an opening, so I'm not as methodical at inputing correctly. Need to work on being more relaxed. I probably leave a solid 20% damage on the table each game off this alone.

If any of you guys are up for some games, send me a friend request. Been on here like a week and haven't gotten a chance to play anyone from TYM yet.

I also play on Xbox as well. And yeah I know what you are talking about. What you are talking about is a rites of passage I once had to go through. Like "down back Y....? WTF is that?" But then practice makes perfect so I can do any special move input automatically (of course putting them in combos are more advanced and online you will accidentally screw up because you are in so much pressure) . In my opinion, 30% is the number you gotta aim to call it a combo that doesn't involve too many meter burns. What characters do you use? because I use Catwoman, Zod, Harley Quinn, and Joker.

Tips:

-If you really have too many problems with directional input, turn release check off!
-Don't rely too much on uppercuts and back A, forward A, any body can do that which makes you predictable.
-I can show you combos and stuff but I've been away at college, but this weekend I'm back to my sweet old Xbox!
