Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Discussion [WARNING! SPOILERS INSIDE!]

The writing in the first show was so cringe-worthy. Whoever wrote the dialogue should be banned from ever having access to pen, paper, or any word-processing software in existence. The writing was just that bad. Me and my friends were unable to make it through the entire first episode.

Im neither a marvel boy or Dc boy so im looking at this as objectivly as i can considering i still enjoy both companies and their products... thsi pilot wasnt horrible but it wasnt great, not in the least, the written was not horrible it was just very cliche, everyline that came out of the casts mouth outside of Mei and Coulson was a cliche...

Although I can understand your apprehension in regards to many of their lines, we're talking about Joss Whedon's writing, who's responsible for giving us The Avengers (after many numerous failed attempts from others). It has the exact same kind of writing from the film, with witty banter and jokes strewn throughout - the difference is you're getting it all over the course of 45 minutes rather than 2 & 1/2 hours & from unknown actors rather than well-known & proven actors that fit an iconic role to a T. It's a lot to take in. I'd also like to remind you that he's responsible for many popular shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well. He knows how to write because he gets people to watch. Give it time - it will get better. My advice? Swallow your pride & force yourself to finish the 1st episode, otherwise, you might miss something.

Finally saw the pilot last night.

I knew Colson was in it, but i didn't research or watch anything leading up to its debut, so I didn't realize they faked his death. Kinda lame, tho i thought this was a prequel kinda thing.

Mixed feelings. It has potential but its just so unlike their movies with special effects, I wasn't sure if I can take it serious. I will try, but we'll see.

The pilot was okay. My main problem with it, as others have pointed out, is the generic feel of the characters. However, remember that the main guy behind this also brought us a short-lived TV show with one of the most lovable casts EVER - Firefly. Honestly, I thought the cast of Firefly felt a bit generic after the first episode. I was so glad to be proven wrong, and I know it's gonna happen again with this show. #FaithInWhedon

just watched episode 2, best part was the ending, wasn't expecting that so soon in the season :) but the negatives of the pilot remain the negatives in this episode apart from the character/team building. Those scenes with Miranda that should of been kl made me cringe instead. the poor dialogue and sub-par acting killed it for me. And is it just me or did it seem like at times when she was pulling that serious face she looked like she was trying not to laugh lol.
On the + side the introduction of Hydra, the pretty well choreographed action scenes and the gradual character building kept me interested.

This show is meh, but considering TV budget. I like Arrow more, I do think this show will last at least 3 seasons though.

Are there any characters from the comics in this show? Thats probably the only way i'll watch.
Not sure, I think "the cavalry" may be a comic character. Apart from that there's been allot of promising references like gamma tech and hydra. And there's been A cameo of nick fury so there will probably be allot more in future

Yeah, I felt the same way. I doubt we'll ever see a DC or Marvel show as successful as Smallville again(10 years is quite a feat, especially these days lol) But I hear ya, Arrow started off meh but has progressively gotten better. I do look forward to Flash showing up and they're supposed to have a spin off show with Flash/Barry Allen. That I'm more pumped for honestly. Especially if they have Zoom or Reverse Flash from New 52 that can be boss! As well as other Flash's.

Gotham sounds like it'll be ok, without Batman they already tried that with Birds of Prey and we saw what happened with that.

I think Marvel should play it safe with the film/movie gig. But I admit, I favor DC more being more of a DC guy myself :)

The only way to make DC characters even remotely interesting (outside of batman) is to show us how they evolved and learned to deal with their powers.

The reason Arrow is so good... is because the dude can't just throw someone into the moon.

Eh, as with most shows you could watch the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes and not miss much of anything. This is basically CSI with a pinch of sci-fi.

Yup. I really do not like the show but I have to keep watching it in the hopes it will get better. I usually read during it and don't seem to miss anything. The generic shit needs to go and they have to start dipping into the Marvel Universe if they have hopes to keep the show going. A reference to the Avengers movie or Tony Stark here and there isn't going to cut it.

While i agree the show isnt great. Whedon did say the show wasnt gonna be about the avengers or superheroes. He warned us if youre expecting marvel characters to appear in every episode youll be disappointed.

Well, then he should have made a different show. I can deal with Marvel character not being in it if it was good. They're going to have to do something. I'm also not talking about having the big characters in the show, I'd be happy with less known heroes and villains. At least we got a taste of that last night.

Well then i expect you wont like Gotham either. Im sure the intention was to make the show good it just so happens it isnt. Throwing a bunch of heroes or villains into the show wont make it any better.
